About Dance Theatre Arts

About Dance Theatre Arts

Dance Theatre Arts is a dance school operating islandwide from its centre at Bugis+ Mall in Victoria Street, Singapore. It holds KakiList verification and is registered with ACRA, and carries a Google rating of 4.5 from 137 reviews — a robust sample that lends reasonable weight to the score. Pricing is positioned at the mid-range tier ($$), though specific session or monthly fees are not publicly listed.

For families and individuals considering enrolment, the natural first step is to enquire about level and syllabus fit — whether that is ballet, contemporary, jazz, or another discipline — and to ask about grouping by age and experience. It is worth clarifying whether classes are offered on a group or individual basis, what the term commitment looks like, and whether there are any trial class options before signing up for a full term. The Bugis+ Mall location is well served by public transport, with Bugis MRT station a short walk away, which is practical for families coordinating after-school schedules. Ask about materials or attire requirements, as these can add to the upfront cost.

To take the next step, reach out to Dance Theatre Arts via WhatsApp, phone, or the online enquiry form to ask about current class availability, the schedule that suits your level, and any upcoming term start dates.

Class sizes are generally large (around 30–40 participants), which limits opportunities for individual feedback and corrections. Most instructors are either company-affiliated or retired professionals. Of those I’ve encountered, only a few have created a supportive and constructive learning environment. Rosa Park (who was temporarily substituting) and Ivan (currently substituting) stood out for their attentiveness, offering personalised corrections and adapting exercises when needed. This greatly enhances the learning experience. As the class rates are significantly lower than those of typical adult studios, the range in student ability and maturity is understandably broader. While this is not an issue in itself, I have occasionally observed younger students, typically teenagers or those in university, offering unsolicited corrections to others (adults) during class, even while the instructor is still present. This reflects a lack of emotional intelligence and classroom awareness, and can come across as presumptuous, especially since they are fellow students, not qualified teachers. While such behaviour is not the fault of SB, it may be beneficial to establish a clear guideline that corrections should only be given by instructors. This would help maintain a respectful and focused environment where all students can feel safe to learn and grow.

Hi , it's a great place to learn ballet for those who has no ballet background n it's affordable fee as well....also better wear leotard n tight for class for ladies especially since you are new as the ballet instructor will need to see your movements n steps to correct you easily....I have learned ballet before so I knew about it.....just go n try n see if you like it as well....Singapore Ballet is my 1st choice to learn ballet....as the school specialise in ballet especially n they have the beginner 1 for adult that I can learn for long term to build the foundation....

Agreed that it is not possible for complete beginners to pick up any skill from open classes without fixed syllabus work and personal feedback. Class size varies depending on the day of class. I wasted two years of my time and money trying to learn from adult classes. I wish there was more honesty and acknowledgment from the dance company that this school is not suited for complete beginners with no ballet background. It would have saved me and some others I know alot of years.

The beginners one class was a good introduction to ballet. However, beyond that this studio is not suitable for complete beginners with no dance background. There is limited to none feedback given, due to the large class size. It was difficult to progress further in terms of technique. If, however, you already have dance instruction elsewhere and want an additional class to learn more combinations, or have ballet background then this school will be suitable for you. All in all, it was still an experience being taught by professionals.

Can I try a class before committing?

Many dance schools offer a trial class so prospective students can experience the teaching style and assess whether the level and pace are a good fit before paying for a full term. When attending, observe how the instructor manages mixed-ability learners, whether the class size allows for individual feedback, and whether your child or you feel engaged and comfortable with the approach. Contact Dance Theatre Arts directly via WhatsApp, phone, or the online form to ask whether a trial class is available for the specific style and age group you are interested in, and what the trial fee, if any, would be.

What are the instructors' credentials at Dance Theatre Arts?

Instructor qualifications in dance schools can range from professional performance backgrounds and internationally recognised teaching certifications — such as those from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), British Ballet Organisation (BBO), or Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) — to degrees in performing arts or dance education. Syllabus alignment matters particularly if a student is working towards graded examinations. Public information on the specific qualifications of Dance Theatre Arts instructors is not available in this listing. It is advisable to ask directly about each instructor's training background, examination board affiliations if applicable, and years of teaching experience before committing to a term.
