I visited this clinic on 1 Dec and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Phua and the clinic. I went in because my 4th right toe had what I believed to be a corn/wart, and it was emitting discharge. I explained this clearly. However, Dr. Phua did not physically examine the area at all. He only used “eye power” to look at it without touching, and still could not tell me whether it was a corn or a wart. Despite the discharge, I had already suspected an infection on my own, but Dr. Phua never mentioned the possibility of infection and suggested that I cut it off myself using a nail clipper, which made me even more concerned. He later gave me a referral letter but did not specify which specialist or hospital to go to, which made the referral unclear. I was also told by the nurse to get an MC from the specialist — even though specialist appointments are rarely available on the same day. This does not make sense, and they should have provided an MC. Because I was still in pain and unsure, I went to another clinic, and the second doctor confirmed there was an infection. The second doctor also took the time to explain the difference between a corn and a wart, and walked me through the proper treatment steps, which gave me much more clarity. This made the difference in professionalism very obvious, and is why I decided to leave a Google review. I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but the lack of proper examination and explanation during my first visit felt unprofessional. I hope the clinic and doctor can improve. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.
Insincere Not professional Uncaring I went to Dr Phua after coughing for 2 weeks and 2 days of high fever, today is 3rd day with mild fever, still coughing. Usually u know if a doctor is genuinely doing a diagnosis when he picks up the otoscope and listen to your breathe. For this reason I always try to give the doctor a good exhale. When Dr Phua put the otoscope to my chest I barely had chance to exhale but he already completed 5 light tabs to the front and back of my chest. I doubt he could have heard anything as I was still holding my breathe. Next he asked if I would like to test for influenza virus and promptly asked me to sit outside for the test. At that point felt less than 3 min into our consultation. Next my insurance did not cover influenza test so I din do the test. The counter called me to pick up my meds. I wasn't prescribed antibiotics for which i asked to speak to the doctor. To my shock, the doctor had thought that I was only 3rd day into my cough. He was not listening to me earlier. He simply compiled to my request for antibotics. At no point did he asked what the colour of my phlegm, or how long did I have phelgm in my cough. After reflecting on the whole visit, I felt like that doctor probably though I just wanted MC that's why he quickly ended the consultation with mild medications for my sickness. If you are really sick and dont mind a doctor treating you like malingering, this is the clinic for you. I doubt the doctor can do any proper diagnosis with his listening skills.
I was charged a full consultation fee for just a prescription with no medication. The best part is the prescription written is for a product no longer available on the market. Defeats the purpose of going to a doctor if you can't get any medicine. I had to go to another clinic and paid full price just to get my medicine. If I needed a diagnosis only, I would have asked WebMD.
Our usual GP was fully booked and but my hubby needed urgent medical attention as having bad cough which affected sleep. Called Dr Care based on good reviews and managed to book a slot. Happy! But alas, it ended when he reached the clinic. (1) The wait for the doctor was outside the clinic - hardly bearable in Singapore’s oppressive weather - and near unthinkable when you’re unwell. (2) Remember we chose this clinic cos we scored a slot? The wait was 1 hour 10mins. Even longer than the walk-in wait time at our usual GP (which btw is amazing in all aspects which is why it’s always fully booked). I know cos I did walk-in there before. Well, this is the first and last time we are coming here. Em, shouldn’t “Care” for the patient start even before you see the patient?
Beware. I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the practices at DrCare. During my visit, I was startled to be charged $38 for a consultation with the doctor (without any medication), despite a prominently displayed price list indicating a consultation fee of $28. When I sought clarification from the clinic's staff, their response was not only dismissive but also confrontational. They justified the inflated charge by claiming it was due to the length of my consultation and even tried to change the price list *on the spot*. However, such a policy was not communicated transparently beforehand, nor was it reflected in the advertised prices in black and white. This incident underscores a broader problem within DrCare organisation, where patients are vulnerable to exploitative practices and hidden fees. Should patients be subjected to arbitrary pricing decisions without clear disclosure? Are there insufficient regulations in place to ensure fair and transparent billing practices? And what is the principals and business ethics of this company? My family and I have been a patron of DrCare for many years and was always impressed by their care and professionalism by Dr Ong. The new doctor was not professional as well and this incident further proves that I would have to think twice before heading to this clinic in the future...
