About Singapore Dance Theatre

Singapore Dance Theatre is a dance school operating islandwide, listed on KakiList as a verified and ACRA-registered provider. It is based at Bugis+ Mall on Victoria Street and holds a Google rating of 4.5 out of 5 across 137 reviews, which represents a robust sample and offers a reliable signal of consistent service quality. Prospective students or parents are encouraged to enquire about level and syllabus fit before enrolling — dance schools typically offer streams by age group, ability, and style (such as ballet, contemporary, or jazz), and confirming the right placement matters. It is worth asking whether classes are group-based or available in a one-to-one format, what the term commitment looks like, and whether materials or attire are included in the fee or billed separately. The school's Bugis+ location is accessible by MRT, which may be a practical consideration for families managing after-school schedules.

To take the next step, reach out to Singapore Dance Theatre via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to ask about current class schedules, level placement, trial class availability, and term fees before committing to enrolment.

Class sizes are generally large (around 30–40 participants), which limits opportunities for individual feedback and corrections. Most instructors are either company-affiliated or retired professionals. Of those I’ve encountered, only a few have created a supportive and constructive learning environment. Rosa Park (who was temporarily substituting) and Ivan (currently substituting) stood out for their attentiveness, offering personalised corrections and adapting exercises when needed. This greatly enhances the learning experience. As the class rates are significantly lower than those of typical adult studios, the range in student ability and maturity is understandably broader. While this is not an issue in itself, I have occasionally observed younger students, typically teenagers or those in university, offering unsolicited corrections to others (adults) during class, even while the instructor is still present. This reflects a lack of emotional intelligence and classroom awareness, and can come across as presumptuous, especially since they are fellow students, not qualified teachers. While such behaviour is not the fault of SB, it may be beneficial to establish a clear guideline that corrections should only be given by instructors. This would help maintain a respectful and focused environment where all students can feel safe to learn and grow.

Hi , it's a great place to learn ballet for those who has no ballet background n it's affordable fee as well....also better wear leotard n tight for class for ladies especially since you are new as the ballet instructor will need to see your movements n steps to correct you easily....I have learned ballet before so I knew about it.....just go n try n see if you like it as well....Singapore Ballet is my 1st choice to learn ballet....as the school specialise in ballet especially n they have the beginner 1 for adult that I can learn for long term to build the foundation....

Agreed that it is not possible for complete beginners to pick up any skill from open classes without fixed syllabus work and personal feedback. Class size varies depending on the day of class. I wasted two years of my time and money trying to learn from adult classes. I wish there was more honesty and acknowledgment from the dance company that this school is not suited for complete beginners with no ballet background. It would have saved me and some others I know alot of years.

The beginners one class was a good introduction to ballet. However, beyond that this studio is not suitable for complete beginners with no dance background. There is limited to none feedback given, due to the large class size. It was difficult to progress further in terms of technique. If, however, you already have dance instruction elsewhere and want an additional class to learn more combinations, or have ballet background then this school will be suitable for you. All in all, it was still an experience being taught by professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Singapore Dance Theatre charge per session?

Singapore Dance Theatre displays a mid-range ($$) price indicator, but specific per-session, monthly, or term fees are not publicly listed and will need to be confirmed directly with the school. Dance schools in Singapore typically charge S$20–60 per session for group classes, with term packages often representing better value than paying per session. Monthly packages, sibling discounts, and multi-class bundles are common, so it is worth asking about all available pricing structures at the time of enquiry. Additional costs to clarify include any one-off registration fee, required attire or footwear, and exam or recital fees if the school follows a graded syllabus such as RAD or CSTD. See the full Dance Schools cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

Many dance schools in Singapore offer a trial class, sometimes at a reduced rate or occasionally complimentary, to allow prospective students to experience the teaching style, class pace, and studio environment before signing up for a full term. It is worth confirming directly with Singapore Dance Theatre whether a trial is available and what the cost, if any, would be. When attending a trial, pay attention to whether the level is appropriate for your child's current ability, how the instructor manages the class, and whether the student appears engaged and comfortable. A well-matched placement and teaching style are more important indicators of long-term progress than the school's reputation alone.

What are the instructors' credentials at Singapore Dance Theatre?

Instructor qualifications at dance schools can vary considerably. Relevant credentials include professional performance experience, teaching diplomas from recognised bodies such as the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), or Cecchetti Society, and any accreditation from the National Arts Council or local dance institutions. The specific qualifications of Singapore Dance Theatre's teaching faculty are not published in the listing data available here. It is advisable to ask directly about each instructor's background, the syllabus followed, and whether the school is affiliated with any examining body before committing to a term. This is particularly relevant if the goal is graded examinations or a pathway into vocational dance training.
