About Tutorbase

About Tutorbase

Tutorbase is a private tutoring service listed under Education on KakiList, operating islandwide from its registered address at 175 Bencoolen St, #08-02, Singapore 189649. The provider holds KakiList verified status, meaning operating details and contact channels have been confirmed by a real person. It carries a perfect 5-out-of-5 rating on Google, though this is based on only 7 reviews, so the signal should be treated as directional rather than conclusive. Pricing is indicated at the S$$ level; exact per-session or monthly package rates are not publicly listed and should be confirmed directly with the provider.

Families typically begin by reaching out via WhatsApp, phone, or the online enquiry form to discuss their child's level and syllabus requirements — whether that is MOE primary or secondary school, IP, IGCSE, IB, or junior college. It is worth clarifying upfront whether the tutoring is offered as one-to-one sessions or in small groups, and whether lessons take place in person or online. Ask about term commitment expectations, any trial class arrangements, and whether materials or assessment papers are included in the fee.

To take the next step, contact Tutorbase directly via WhatsApp or phone to share your child's current level, the subject and syllabus, and your preferred scheduling. Listing data is incomplete — contact Tutorbase directly to confirm details.

The lessons have been very useful in helping me identify my weak areas to work on. Alwyn is always thorough in his explanations of the various concepts and makes it more manageable to grasp the material as a whole. At the same time, he makes sure that lessons are also enjoyable and never fails to clarify any of my doubts. It's thanks to his guidance and encouragement that I was able to improve in my Physics:)

Lessons are fun and informative. Alwyn and KS are both really amazing. They have made lessons very easy to comprehend and are both very patient with me, whenever I have questions or doubts about any concepts. They know the concepts like the back of their hands. Lessons are not just academic lessons, but life lessons as well. Thank you both so much. I really appreciate all the help and I'm glad that I am still in touch with the both of you!

The jc physics syllabus is very hectic and it is hard to cram so much information in a span of 1.5 years. On top of that, the nature of physics as a subject relies on contextual understanding and applications of mathematics and concepts learnt, rather than pure knowledge of the concepts itself. Such complications, piled with the immense depth of knowledge we are expected to have for the physics jc syllabus, makes physics a rather hard subject to score. Through j1 and the first half of j2, i struggled to score for physics, not because i didnt know what i was supposed to know, but because i didnt know what the examiners expected from me. I knew the concepts individually, but was unable to piece them together. Even when i knew the answer to certain questions, i was unable to put them into words and phrases in which the examiners were looking out for. I met Mr Alwyn after my Mid Years in j2, and i would like to express my gratitude towards him for being the most patient and versatile tutor i've ever met. Mr Alwyn does not really have a fixed "teaching style", but rather adapts himself to how a student learns best. He's also a very patient tutor, one that can answer the same question over and over when you throw them back at him each time you forget the same concept (generally, tutors would get pretty annoyed). Last but not least, Mr Alwyn extends the bonds formed with him beyond the classroom. Even till today, as i am serving my National Service, i am still in contact with Mr Alwyn. The close ties formed with him made me dare to approach him with "stupid" questions more without the fear of being lashed out on, which eventually strengthened my physics abilities much more than i had expected. As such, i was able to improve my physics from an E during Mid Years to an A for A levels under his guidance in a span of a few months. Thanks Mr Alwyn!

Mr Chan’s lessons were very useful as they were focused on content mastery and understanding. I used to be really weak in Chemistry as I did not have a firm foundation, but Mr Chan patiently guided me through useful summaries and lots of practice questions, and this enabled me to grasp a firm understanding of the difficult concepts. This enabled me to improve from a 4 to a 7 points (80%) in my final IB examination for Chemistry. Thank you very much!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Tutorbase charge per session?

Tutorbase displays a mid-range price indicator, but exact per-session fees, monthly package rates, and term fees are not publicly listed and will need to be confirmed directly with the provider. As a general reference, private tuition in Singapore typically ranges from around S$30–50 per hour for part-time tutors to S$80–150 or more per hour for ex-MOE teachers and specialist tutors, depending on level and subject. Ask whether a trial class is available and at what cost, whether materials or printed papers are included, and if any sibling or multi-subject package discounts apply. Some tutors bill by the month rather than per session, so clarify the billing cycle before committing. See the full Private Tutors cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

Tutorbase has not publicly stated a trial class policy, so it is advisable to ask directly whether a one-off trial session is available and whether it is charged at the standard rate or a reduced introductory fee. A trial class is a useful way to assess whether the teaching style suits your child, whether the pace and level are appropriate for their current standing, and whether your child feels comfortable with the tutor. Pay attention to how the tutor explains concepts and whether they invite questions, as engagement quality matters as much as subject knowledge. If a formal trial is not offered, ask for a short consultation or introductory call instead to gauge fit before agreeing to a longer commitment.

What are the tutor's credentials?

Specific tutor credentials, such as NIE or MOE teaching background, degree qualifications, or years of teaching experience, are not listed publicly for Tutorbase. Before committing to sessions, it is worth asking directly which tutor will be assigned to your child, their academic background, and how many years they have been teaching the relevant subject and level. Also confirm which syllabus the tutor is most familiar with — MOE standard stream, Express, IP, IGCSE, or IB — as alignment with your child's actual school curriculum makes a meaningful difference to lesson effectiveness. If your child has a specific school or examination in mind, ask whether the tutor has prior experience preparing students for that assessment.
