Wedding Vendor Contracts SG: 12 Clauses You Can't Skip

Planning a wedding in Singapore is already a full-time unpaid job on top of your actual job. Between choosing between a hotel ballroom in Orchard or a cosy restaurant venue in Tiong Bahru, picking florists, and fighting with your mother-in-law over the guest list, the wedding vendor contract is probably the last thing you want to read properly.

But here's the jialat truth: most wedding horror stories you hear on Reddit Singapore or in wedding Telegram groups — vendor MIA two weeks before the big day, surprise $800 'overtime charge', photographer delivering photos eight months late — all trace back to one thing. Nobody actually read the contract before signing.

So before you hand over that deposit cheque, here are 12 clauses in a wedding vendor contract in Singapore that you absolutely cannot skim past.

1. Payment Schedule & Deposit Terms

What it says: Usually 30-50% deposit upon signing, balance due 14-30 days before the event.

What it means for you: Once you pay that deposit, you're locked in. Some vendors (especially popular ones during the Nov-Dec peak season) ask for 50% upfront.

What's standard in SG: 30% deposit, 70% balance two weeks before the event is the norm for photographers and makeup artists. Banquet venues often want a bigger first deposit (sometimes $1,000-$3,000) just to block the date.

Push back on: Full payment upfront. No reputable vendor needs 100% before delivering anything.

2. Cancellation & Refund Policy

What it says: Sliding scale — the closer to your date you cancel, the less you get back (or nothing at all).

What it means for you: If your venue gets scrapped due to unforeseen circumstances (yes, we all remember COVID postponements), you need to know exactly what's refundable.

What's standard: Deposits are typically non-refundable past a certain point — usually 90 days before the event. Some vendors offer a one-time free date change instead of a refund.
