Store is supposed to be open till 8pm. I went down to make a purchase at 4pm & the store was closed. Called the store hotline & the guy said the employee just decided to close early. Wasted my time. Buy your chess necessities elsewhere.

The place is small, serving as a training and club, and while the variety of goods is limited, the brands are all world-class.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does "Ashton Chess Academy" charge per session?

Ashton Chess Academy's specific session fees are not publicly listed. In the Singapore enrichment market, chess classes typically range from S$30–60 per session for group classes, with one-to-one coaching running higher. Monthly package rates are common and often work out more economical than paying per session. Ask whether a trial class is available and whether there is a separate fee for it. Additional costs to confirm include any materials fees (e.g. chess sets or workbooks), sibling discounts, and whether fees differ for group versus individual instruction. Some providers charge a one-time registration fee. See the full Enrichment Classes cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

A trial class is the most reliable way to assess fit before committing to a full term. During a trial, observe whether the teaching pace suits your child's current level, whether the instructor explains concepts clearly and keeps the child engaged, and whether the class size allows for individual attention. Contact Ashton Chess Academy directly to ask whether a trial session is offered, what it costs, and how it is structured. Some providers offer the first class at a reduced rate or apply the trial fee towards the term if you proceed. It is also worth asking how students are grouped — by age, by ability, or both.

What are the tutor's credentials at "Ashton Chess Academy"?

Specific instructor credentials are not listed publicly for Ashton Chess Academy. For chess coaching, relevant qualifications to ask about include ratings from FIDE (the international chess federation) or the Singapore Chess Federation, experience coaching children at competitive or recreational level, and any formal coaching certifications. It is also worth asking how long the instructors have been teaching, whether they are familiar with MOE or international competition formats if your child intends to take part in school tournaments, and whether the same instructor leads each session for consistency. Raise these questions directly with the academy before committing to a term.
