I recently underwent an admission and surgery at Farrer Park Hospital, and my experience was extremely positive. From the moment I was admitted, the environment was comfortable and reassuring. The nurses and caring staff were attentive and professional, regularly checking on my condition after the surgery and making sure I was well looked after. I was especially touched when, after being discharged and arriving home, I received a lovely get-well fruit hamper from the hospital. It was a thoughtful gesture that went beyond expectations and showed genuine care for patients even after discharge. I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent experience my mother had at your hospital. She was admitted for a liver biopsy... Due to her condition, she stayed two additional days, and we fully settled all related charges upon discharge. However, after returning home, we were unexpectedly informed of an additional charge exceeding SGD 1,000+ for the liver biopsy. We were told this was due to ten stains being used instead of the usual two or three. This was never communicated to us at any point during her stay or upon discharge. It is unacceptable that such a significant medical and financial decision was made without prior discussion or consent. The lack of transparency and communication has caused us great frustration and loss of trust in your hospital’s professionalism. This experience reflects poorly on the hospital’s communication and billing practices, and we hope immediate steps are taken to address and improve them. At this stage, we have lost confidence in the hospital’s service and would rate our overall experience as extremely unsatisfactory. 👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿

My son, a vulnerable university student, sought emergency care here that required a procedure. He went alone for treatment and was visibly shell-shocked when he reached billing. I strongly feel that he was taken advantage of due to his young age and vulnerable state. He was presented with an excessive bill of over SGD 3,000. Prior to treatment, he was only informed of the A&E charge (SGD 170+) and advised that the specialist consultation would cost between SGD 300–900. No further financial counselling was provided to explain the potential cost of the procedure or overall treatment. This raises the serious question of how the final bill escalated to over SGD 3,000. Additionally, the billing appears inaccurate — the coding states “non-surgical” despite an incision and drainage (I&D) procedure being performed. Insurance coverage was also not checked or discussed, and no due diligence was exercised in this regard. There was a clear lack of transparency and accountability throughout this process. The experience feels exploitative rather than patient-centred. I would strongly advise others to avoid this hospital.
