About Fingerstyle Academy

About Fingerstyle Academy

Fingerstyle Academy is a music school operating islandwide from its centre at Bishan Street 13. It holds KakiList verified status, meaning operating details and contact channels have been confirmed by a real person. The school carries a 4.9-out-of-5 rating across 33 Google reviews — a small-to-moderate sample, so treat it as directional rather than definitive. Pricing is indicated at the mid-range tier ($$), though specific per-session or monthly fees are not publicly listed.

Prospective students or parents should begin by enquiring about level and syllabus fit — whether that means absolute beginner fingerstyle, classical guitar, or a more contemporary fingerpicking style. It is worth asking about group classes versus one-to-one tuition, as these differ in pace, price, and attention. A trial class can help gauge whether the teaching approach suits the student before any term commitment is made. Lessons are available at the Bishan premises, and the islandwide coverage designation suggests some flexibility in arrangement, which is worth confirming directly.

To take the next step, reach out to Fingerstyle Academy via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to ask about current availability, pricing, and whether a trial class can be arranged before committing to a term.

I had a lot of fun learning at Fingerstyle Academy! As an adult beginner and being totally new to guitar, I was initially worried that I would not be able to pick up fingerstyle, but Amos’s lessons were very structured and with good pacing. Each lesson was build on learning various guitar techniques, and incorporated in the songs of my choice, hence classes were always fun and fruitful. Amos was also very encouraging, even if I took longer to get the techniques right. Would definitely recommend to any adult beginner looking to pick up a new skill!

Been with Amos for a year, very happy with my progress and loved the community events. Amos is kind and dedicated to his students, and has an infectious passion for the guitar. Glad to able to learn under him.

I was learning on my own for about 2 years, and since then learning with Teacher Amos under Fingerstyle Academy (FA) for about 2 years!! I'd highly recommend FA for several reasons. #1 Lessons are fun! That keeps me engaged playing the guitar :D #2 Teacher Amos restructured how I think about music! I am better able to listen to a piece and appreciate it's different aspects these days; looking back, I kinda wished I'd had someone share with me this means of understanding music from the start. #3 Lessons are catered to your learning styles and interests. I didn't have to tell Teacher Amos how I learned best, he just seemed to... pick it up! #4 Invites and discounts on fingerstyle concert tickets!! I super appreciate the effort FA goes to make tickets accessible to all students :)

Learning from Amos at Fingerstyle Academy has completely transformed my playing. Before I joined, i was only able to play certain chords and notes by following the music sheet. The songs did not sound complete but with fingerstyle playing, I was able to mimic the real song by making use of different techniques. Amos breaks things down in a way that just makes sense, helping me to finetune my ability to listen to the different notes of the song. His teaching style is patient, encouraging, and incredibly clear. If you want to improve on your playing skills or even pick up a new hobby, Fingerstyle Academy is a place to consider!

Have been learning from Teacher Amos for about half a year! Highly recommend to anyone who would like to pick up guitar (especially percussive Fingerstyle!) He is experienced, passionate and patient in teaching. I have been learning acoustic guitar myself for about 6 years. I felt that my progress was pretty stagnant in the recent years and after attending Teacher Amos’ classes, I find that I am slowly getting back on track and managed to learn a lot from him. It’s really fun learning from Amos! - Daphne

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Fingerstyle Academy charge per session?

Fingerstyle Academy lists its pricing at the mid-range tier ($$), but specific per-session, monthly package, or term fees are not publicly displayed. Music school rates in Singapore typically range from S$40–80 per session for group classes and S$80–180 per session for one-to-one tuition, varying by lesson duration and the instructor's experience. It is worth asking about materials or instrument hire costs, any registration or administrative fees, and whether sibling or multi-lesson package discounts apply. A trial class fee, if offered, is usually charged at the standard session rate or at a reduced rate. See the full Music Schools cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

Many music schools, including those focused on fingerstyle guitar, offer a trial class so prospective students can assess fit before signing up for a full term. A trial is an opportunity to observe teaching style, gauge the pacing and level appropriateness, and see whether the student feels engaged and comfortable with the instructor. It is advisable to ask Fingerstyle Academy directly whether a trial lesson is available, what it costs, and whether the fee is credited towards a term if you proceed. During the trial, note whether the teacher adjusts to the student's existing ability and explains techniques clearly rather than following a rigid script.

What are the tutors' credentials at Fingerstyle Academy?

Specific instructor credentials for Fingerstyle Academy are not listed in the available information. For a specialist fingerstyle music school, relevant qualifications to ask about include formal music education (diploma or degree from a recognised conservatoire or university), graded examination certifications (such as ABRSM or Trinity), and years of performance or teaching experience in fingerstyle or classical guitar. It is also useful to ask whether instructors are familiar with the syllabus relevant to your goal — whether that is leisure playing, ABRSM examinations, or a specific fingerstyle genre. Contacting Fingerstyle Academy directly before enrolment is the most reliable way to confirm tutor backgrounds.
