We were referred to Dr Karmen Wong. Everything else are great, not much of a hiccups. The only thing that they need to improve is the room temperature for the both clinic and the chemotherapy area. Might seem like a small issue, but it is ridiculously cold and uncomfortable esp for those who are there for a whole day treatment and also for the spouse who lounging around under the freezing cold ac. I am 100% positive that almost every other spouse or visitor mentioned the exact same thing of how cold the place is. This is a chemo clinic which means a lot of people will stay for at least half a day and even for these chemo patients who are not in their fittest condition, this freezing temperature needs to be improved.

ICON CANCER CENTER We were referred to seek professional advice to reputable Dr Karmen Wong from Icon Cancer Center with regards to my wife medical condition after her surgery. Appointment was made on 23/09/22 at 12pm ( unable to make appointment for early date as doctor was not available till to date) , my wife and myself arrived at the clinic at 11.45am and was informed that we are second in the queue after registration. There are 3 more patients came in the clinic after us. Around 1.30pm, we noticed that the other 2 patients that came in after us were called upon. We then approached the counter nurses for clarification. To our surprise and shock, the nurses told us under doctor's instructions that we have been pushed to later queue as we are new registration and priority has been given to their regular or frequent patients and at that point of time, there and there , the nurses then notify perhaps we would like to visit the clinic after 2.30pm. Are we not welcome? Or invisible? Why can't they notify us of the situation early on and just let us wait so long at the bench. "We are sorry and that you are really upsetting" that's it from the clinic. Where is the basic professional etiquette that at least needs to give to their patient though we are NEW patients. It seems like we have been unreasonable to question them and seek for explaination as some of the staffs body language doesn't seems very positive towards me. I deeply felt that we have been humiliated and discriminated . All this ill treatment from the clinic has caused anxiety and aggrevated my wife's level of depression and has badly affected my wife's emotion and she started shivering and sweating. You might said it's a miscommunication but there were 5 of us sitting on the bench , are we transparent or so insignificant to be noticed. If we weren't to voice out then what will happen to us just let to be seated there as it is? Perhaps the public and new patients that wish to pay a visit to the clinic reserve the right to know that PRIORITY will only be given to their regular patients first.

The clinic itself was well run and has very kind nurses. Dr Shang has a professional and warm disposition. He has great bedside manners and a very patient, kind manner of speaking. We remain grateful for his commitment and unwavering care, as he even gives us his emergency number to text him if needed, but we never did need to as he was always thorough in consultations. He is also a very dedicated and sincere cancer specialist, but I cannot vouch for how effective or experienced he is because our patient died anyway - the chemo did not work, the cancer was not responding to it. No one was to blame. We did everything and Dr Shang tried everything there was to be done but cancer remains understudied and untreatable. I do wonder sometimes if less is more. Had we gone to SGH and restructured hospitals to seek treatment from highly experienced specialists, would they have done the same? How far do we try treatments, even when one has less to lose? We are trying to buy time. We paid very very high, private fees, but the outcome was the same. Is it worth going to a one-stop shop for oncology services? It was worthy to note that we saved waiting time because we decided to try private practice and follow one doctor's prognosis.
