Ever thought about learning drums but prefer an all-adult environment? J Music is the perfect place! I had zero experience with musical instruments before joining—and honestly, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I first heard about J Music through an article in The Straits Times, but only decided to give it a shot last year. I started with a trial lesson and was instantly hooked! Jason, the instructor, is incredibly patient and passionate. He goes the extra mile to help you understand techniques and improve at your own pace. What really stood out to me is how he takes the time to learn your taste in music and selects songs that make learning fun and motivating. Every lesson is engaging, and I always leave feeling like I’ve progressed. Jason is always so encouraging and it really helps me in pushing myself to strive higher & higher! PS: It's super fun to discuss with him about music too!!! He is always introducing songs with sick drum patterns and complexity. The environment is welcoming, inclusive, and super supportive—perfect for adults with no prior music background. You’ll never feel out of place or judged here. I find myself loving the drums every passing day :) TL;DR: If you're looking for a drum school that adapts to your learning speed, teaches your favourite genres, and helps you grow technically—all in a friendly adult environment—J Music is the one!

it all started at the end of covid 2022 , and i always wanted to try playing drums. i don’t want to go commercialised drumming schools so i sourced in social media . i spotted JMusic and i booked a trial lesson with Jason . When i found out that this drum school is an all adults only , that was spot on for me . i liked my first trial class with Jason and i signed up immediately to pursue my passion to play . It is really good for enhancing memory and coordination which helps me in my anti- aging development. Jason is patient and ensures that i perfecto in all aspects . And most importantly he kept my interest high by teaching me songs he found in my spotify album . for last 2 years , i have learned and played 7 songs and looking forward to more ! am now at grade 2 and looking forward to my grade 3 . studio and drum set are clean and neat , Come and try your trial lesson with Jason , you will be learning from a very experienced and professional teacher !

I’ve been learning drums with Jason for about 18 months. I started with zero drum knowledge and it’s been a very fun journey! I feel like I’ve also learnt a new way to listen to music. Jason doesn’t just focus on proper technique, he also gives plenty of chances to play songs you enjoy! He's very knowledgeable and has had years of experience. If you’re looking to try something new, I definitely recommend J music 🤘

I am 62 and have been with J Music for three years now and am still learning with Jason. When I first started, I was a totally blank sheet of paper as far as drumming in concerned. I did not know how to read the drum score. I did not even know which is snare and which is crash cymbal. My hand-leg coordination was terribly screwed up during my first lesson. Now I have learned 12 songs and able to follow songs with the standard grooves and simple fill-ins. These basic drumming skills also allow me to have fun jamming with friends playing songs that we enjoy. Jason is a very experienced drum instructor. He is strict and demands high standard but is encouraging to keep me going. His teaching is systematic and effective. He is also flexible in catering to my progress and preference of songs. I enjoy my learning with Jason and will continue with him to progress further. I certainly recommend him to anyone who wishes to pick up drumming with a high-quality instructor.

I started learning drums two years ago with no music background, and it’s been a great journey. My instructor is very professional and supportive, making each lesson clear and encouraging. I’ve grown so much in skill and confidence, and I hope to serve as a drummer in church one day. Highly recommended for beginners!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does J Music Studio charge per session?

J Music Studio is listed at a mid-range price point ($$), though specific per-session rates are not publicly displayed and should be confirmed directly with the studio. In Singapore, music lessons typically range from S$40–80 per session for group classes and S$60–150 or more for one-to-one tuition, depending on the instrument, teacher's experience, and lesson duration. Beyond the base session fee, ask about trial class pricing, term or monthly package rates, materials or book fees, and whether sibling or multi-subject discounts apply. Some studios charge a registration or administrative fee at enrolment. See the full Music Schools cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

Many music schools in Singapore offer a trial lesson, sometimes at a reduced rate or as part of the first term's fee. A trial class is the most reliable way to gauge whether the teaching approach suits the student — look out for how the teacher explains concepts, whether the pace feels appropriate, and whether the student leaves engaged and motivated. When enquiring, confirm whether the trial counts towards the first term's fees or is charged separately, and whether it covers the same format as regular lessons (same duration, same structure). This is especially important for younger children, where teacher rapport matters as much as technical instruction. Contact J Music Studio via WhatsApp or the enquiry form to ask about current trial class availability for your instrument and level.

What are the tutors' credentials at J Music Studio?

Specific tutor credentials for J Music Studio are not listed in the available information. When evaluating a music school, it is reasonable to ask about each teacher's formal qualifications — such as diplomas or degrees from recognised music conservatories or universities — as well as graded examination experience (for example, ABRSM, Trinity, or LCM syllabi) and how many years they have been teaching. For younger students, experience with children and familiarity with beginner-level pedagogy is at least as important as performance credentials. For exam preparation, confirm whether the teacher has a track record with the specific board and grade level your child is working towards. J Music Studio can be contacted directly via WhatsApp or phone to ask about the qualifications of the teacher who would be assigned to your child.
