Prospective students or parents would typically begin by enquiring about level and syllabus fit — whether the school offers lessons aligned to ABRSM, Trinity, or other recognised music examinations, and whether tuition is available for the relevant instrument and grade. It is worth clarifying whether lessons are offered on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, what the term commitment looks like, and whether any online options are available alongside in-person lessons at the Upper Bukit Timah location. A trial class is a common first step in assessing teaching style, pacing, and whether the approach suits the student's age and learning goals before committing to a longer term.
To get started, reach out to Methodist School of Music via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to ask about instrument availability, current openings, and trial class arrangements.
Take the trial class and confirm the tutor's actual credentials before committing to a term.
Conducive environment and well-equipped studio for Sound 101 training. Two thumbs up 👍👍
My daughter has been learning piano at MSM with Ms Chang who is very patient and encouraging. She uses material both within and outside of the ABRSM syllabus to develop the child's skills and musicality beyond preparing for exams. We truly appreciate the school's warm and nurturing environment - the admin staff are always friendly and helpful!
The piano teacher has been really patient in teaching my son piano. A great place for learning musical instruments. I also see quite a number of girls learning ballet too!!
Nice music school tucked away in nature corner of Sg :-)
My daughter went for her violin exam this morning.

Music schools in Singapore typically charge on a per-session or monthly basis, with rates varying by instrument, level, and lesson format. One-to-one lessons generally range from S$40 to S$120 or more per session depending on the teacher's experience and the duration, while group classes tend to be priced lower. Many music schools in Singapore offer a trial class, sometimes at a reduced rate or incorporated into the first month's fee, to allow students and parents to assess fit before committing to a full term. During a trial, it is worth observing whether the teaching pace suits the student's current level, whether the teacher's communication style works for the learner's age, and whether the instrument and repertoire align with the student's interests. Contact Methodist School of Music directly to ask about their trial class policy, the cost involved, and what to expect from a first session. This is also a good opportunity to ask about examination preparation pathways if that is a goal.
Specific tutor credentials are not listed in the available information for Methodist School of Music. When enquiring, it is worth asking about each teacher's formal music qualifications, the grades or diplomas they hold (such as ABRSM Licentiate or higher), their years of teaching experience, and whether they have a background in preparing students for graded examinations with ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall, or similar boards. If your child is working towards specific syllabi — for instance, MOE co-curricular music, ABRSM practical exams, or diploma-level study — confirm that the assigned teacher has direct experience with the relevant examination board and repertoire requirements. Contact the school directly to request this information before enrolling.
