About Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

About Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) is a Singapore-based arts institution offering music programmes, listed on KakiList as a verified and ACRA-registered provider with islandwide coverage. It holds a Google rating of 4.1 out of 5 across 190 reviews, a robust sample that provides a reliable signal of general satisfaction. Fees are indicated at the mid-range ($$) level, though specific per-session or programme pricing is not publicly listed and should be confirmed directly with NAFA.

Prospective students or parents should enquire about level and syllabus fit — whether the programme aligns with beginner, grade examination, or diploma pathways — and clarify whether lessons are offered in group or one-to-one formats. It is worth asking about term commitment requirements, intake periods, and whether any online delivery options are available alongside in-person sessions at the Bencoolen Street campus. Those preparing for graded examinations such as ABRSM or Trinity should confirm that the curriculum is aligned to the relevant syllabus before enrolment.

To begin, reach out to NAFA via WhatsApp, phone, or their online enquiry form to ask about current programme availability, lesson format, and fees, and to arrange a trial class or initial consultation where possible.

The cloisonné short course at NAFA CLE was led by Danielle, an outstanding instructor whose teaching was engaging, enriching, demonstrating professionalism and expertise. Unfortunately, the experience was disrupted by CLE’s administrative failures, including the classroom being double-booked repeatedly and a lack of on-site coordination. These troubling issues underscore the importance of improved communication, stronger institutional support, and equitable treatment of instructors. I highly recommend the course, though stronger ethical oversight and improved coordination would further enhance the experience.

NAFA offers a range of programmes in arts, design, and media. The campus is equipped with modern facilities that support academic study as well as practical artistic work.

This is the worst school I have ever attended. The customer service staff and the dean in charge were extremely unprofessional. I sent an email to ask a few questions related to my schoolwork, but instead of receiving proper assistance, I was scolded and penalized by the dean for sending the email twice. I only resent it because I thought the first email had not gone through. The school should learn from other institutions that demonstrate true professionalism. It is unacceptable to pay such high fees and be treated this way. This experience was very disappointing and upsetting.

I would like to give my highest recommendation to Suzette. She was extremely helpful when I brought my son to learn more about the school and during the application process. She explained everything clearly, answered all our questions patiently, and was always warm and smiling. Truly grateful for her support and professionalism

CLE handling of student enquiries is really unprofessional. Their helplines are useless, especially if you're trying to settle important matters such as enrolment. There's simply no way to get hold of any human to assist! Called them nearly 20x and not a single time was my call answered. Finally, had to go down in person to check if the campus is really open, only to have staff inform that they've been busy and will typically reply email queries within a week. Then why bother having a phone line???

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts charge per session?

NAFA lists its pricing at the mid-range ($$) level, but specific per-session, monthly, or term fees are not publicly disclosed and will vary depending on the programme, instrument, lesson format (group or one-to-one), and level of study. It is common for music schools in Singapore to charge on a per-term or monthly retainer basis rather than strictly per session, with rates for individual lessons typically running higher than group classes. Ask about trial class availability and whether a trial fee applies, as well as any materials or examination entry costs that may be charged separately. Sibling discounts or package deals for multiple term commitments are worth enquiring about. See the full Music Schools cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

Many music schools and academies in Singapore offer a trial lesson before a student commits to a full term or ongoing enrolment. A trial class gives both the student and the teacher an opportunity to assess level, learning style, and programme fit — it is worth observing whether the teaching pace and approach match your learning goals. Contact NAFA directly via WhatsApp, phone, or their enquiry form to ask whether a trial lesson is available for your chosen programme, what it costs, and what a typical session involves. For younger students, a parent is often welcome to observe during a trial. Come prepared with information about the student's current level, any graded examination history, and the musical goals you have in mind, so the instructor can recommend the most appropriate programme from the outset.

What are the tutors' credentials at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts?

NAFA is a well-established arts institution in Singapore with a history in both performing arts education and higher diploma programmes. Faculty credentials and individual tutor backgrounds are not detailed in the current listing, so it is advisable to ask directly about the qualifications and teaching experience of the specific instructor assigned to your programme. When enquiring, useful questions include whether the instructor holds a degree in music performance or music education, how many years of teaching experience they have, and whether they are familiar with the examination syllabus relevant to your goals (such as ABRSM, Trinity, or local diploma frameworks). For advanced or pre-tertiary students, also ask whether the programme connects to NAFA's higher diploma or degree pathways, as this may influence the teaching approach and long-term progression available.
