Wild Rice @ Funan is a very cool theatre with great acoustic and lighting. I went to watch Psychobitch and G*D is a woman there and was very pleased with the space and seats. As it is not a very huge space so I can see the expression of the actress up close and hear her very clearly. The aircon is just nice for me, not too cold. There is also the use of scent in the theatre, which was very memorable for me. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Both of the plays were very creative with great actresses and actors as well as props. The storyline and talk after the play were absolutely educational and enjoyable, too. I was seated Balcony 2 centralised seats door 6. There's metal bars in front of me, and sometimes I need to inch out at my seat to see the actress at a certain angle as it is blocked. One thing to note is if you are seated on Balcony 2, you need to climb 2 levels of stairs, which can be challenging for some. They also partnered with Birds of Paradise to serve ice cream and beer, which was nice, too!

My family and I have been attending Wild Rice productions for many years—even before they moved to their current venue at Funan. We still remember watching Emily of Emerald Hill at Jubilee Hall in Raffles Hotel. The Funan theatre is compact and well laid out, with good views from all levels. The nearly-in-the-round setup draws the audience into the performance in a way that’s different from traditional staging. In December 2024, we watched The Wizard of Oz, which had a local twist with Yishun’s own Dorothy. Performances, music, and choreography were strong. We also appreciated the relaxed format for neurodiverse audiences—credit to Wild Rice for making their shows more accessible. 08/03/2025: Red Riding Hood was a fun production. Sitting in the front stalls made it even more engaging. 17/05/2025: Tunggu Sekejap: The P. Ramlee Suite included a live string orchestra—well put together and emotionally resonant. 14/06/2025: Murder in the Waiting Room had tight pacing, sharp writing, and a strong cast. Another solid evening with Wild Rice.

So magical theatre experience for my family last Sunday as we watched the show "Wizard of Oz". They connected the original story to our current happenings in the world or more like I say in Singapore. Yes. The script and story are aligned to Singapore as the main character (Dorothy) is from Yishun and got transported to the world of Oz. Beautiful story and actors who made it so special. Kids will definitely love this, and I also encourage this kind of experience to be a gift to your loved ones this Christmas season. 10/10

What a gorgeous theatre; clearly a lot of thought went into the design. Definitely the best I’ve experienced. The acoustics are perfect. Very convenient, it being housed in a high-traffic mall, with plenty of bus routes, a short walk to/from City Hall MRT and ample parking space.
