15 Questions To Ask Before Booking A TCM Physician In SG

By KakiList Editorial Team · 12 Oct 2026 · 7 min read · TCM

So your shoulder's been jialat since that HIIT class, or your mum keeps nagging you to "tiao yang" (调养, regulate your body) before CNY. Either way, you're thinking of booking a TCM physician in Singapore — but with clinics ranging from heartland shophouses in Toa Payoh to swanky wellness centres in Orchard, how do you know you're picking a good one?

TL;DR: don't just walk in blur like sotong. Ask the right questions BEFORE you commit to a package or long-term treatment plan. Here's your full pre-booking checklist, organised so you don't miss anything important.

1. Credentials & Qualifications

1. Are you registered with the TCM Practitioners Board (TCMPB)?

This is non-negotiable. Every legit TCM physician practising in Singapore must be registered with the TCMPB. Just ask straight up, or check the register online yourself before you even step in.

Good answer: They show you their registration certificate or quote their registration number confidently. Walk away if: They get defensive or dodge the question — paiseh for them, but also a huge red flag for you.

2. How many years have you been practising, and what's your specialisation?

A physician who's been doing fertility-focused TCM for 15 years might not be your best bet for sports injury recovery. Ask about their focus area — some specialise in gynaecology, others in musculoskeletal issues, paediatrics, or post-stroke rehab.

3. Where did you train, and is it a recognised institution?

Most reputable physicians trained at institutions like the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nanyang Technological University's TCM programme, or established universities in China. A good answer includes specifics, not vague mumbling.

2. Diagnosis & Treatment Scope

4. What's your diagnosis based on, and can you explain it in plain English?

TCM diagnosis (pulse-reading, tongue inspection, asking about your sleep/diet/bowel habits) can feel mysterious if you're not familiar with it. A good physician will explain what they found in terms you understand — not just throw around
