We had the pleasure of working with Mr Razzlee of Carpentry Affairs on our recent home renovation project, and we would like to share our thoughts on the overall experience. Handling of the Project (Start to Finish): From the beginning, Mr Razzlee demonstrated professionalism and a clear vision for the project. He took the time to understand our needs, preferences, and budget, ensuring every detail was planned thoroughly. Throughout the renovation journey, he remained organized, communicative, and proactive in handling challenges, which gave us a peace of mind as the project progressed. Experience as a Homeowners: As homeowners, we felt respected and heard during the entire process. Mr Razzlee and his team was patient with our ideas and provided valuable insights that elevated the overall design. The collaboration was seamless, and we truly felt like our opinions were considered while benefiting from the team expertise. Pros of the Interior Designer: • Strong communication skills and transparency throughout the project via WhatsApp chatgroup between CA and Homeowners. • Creative design ideas that balanced aesthetics and functionality. • Promptness in responding to queries and resolving issues. • Excellent time and project management—deadlines and milestones were met. Cons of the Interior Designer: While the experience was largely positive, two area of improvement could be: • The initial planned projected timeline, having minor hiccups i.e. changes in dates but the team put extra efforts to finish the job and deadlines met. • The plumbing issues where work not performed to a satisfactory standard i.e. the toilet bowl placement was a bit out of specs and pipe "broken" which caused water leakage and caused inconvenience for us to urgently leave our workplace to be there as helper and young children do not know what to do But with this hiccups, we really appreciate the effort Mr Razzlee and the team put into resolving the issues promptly and swiftly. Overall Experience: Our experience with Mr Razzlee and his team was fantastic. The final outcome exceeded our expectations, and we now have a home that reflects our personality and lifestyle. This renovation journey was smooth and enjoyable, thanks once again to Mr Razzlee and his team professionalism, creativity, and dedication to delivering quality work. We would not hesitate to recommend Carpentry Affairs to anyone looking for an experienced, talented, and reliable interior designer! Thank you once again for helping to transform our space into something truly special!
Overall we had a pleasant experience working with Carpentry Affairs, Rahman and Bahrain. We were able to deliver our ideas easily and our vision came to life. Their inputs and designs were also advices that we took in so all in all, the communication between us and them were smooth. As first time home owners we were quite worried about the news of contractors / IDs fleeing but was rest assured when Rahman gave a timeline and google docs for us to prepare for the renovation so that there is no delay in the works as weeks go by. All in all, every staff was friendly and engaging. Timeline was met (2 months) and the ideas and sketches were heard. 5 ⭐️
Before engaging with Carpentry Affairs, please read our honest review of their services during our house renovation. Carpentry Affairs markets itself as a contractor that does not provide interior design (ID) services, supposedly saving you money. However, when compared with companies that provide ID services, their prices are similar. Despite this, they do not offer essential services like 3D design, guidance during material selection, or proper project management. Essentially, you’re paying for a DIY process with minimal professional input, yet still paying ID rates, hidden in inflated line items within the invoice. Here are the major issues we encountered: 1. Lack of Professionalism Even after we paid more than $10k, no design sketch was provided, with the excuse being that tiles were not yet chosen. Weeks after choosing tiles, they delivered a 2D black-and-white sketch without the tiles accounted for. We were asked to sign off on this incomplete design, far from industry norm. Furthermore, the project manager made disparaging remarks about us behind our backs, undermining trust. 2. Lack of Accountability CA gave us a form to fill up technical specs like measurements and mounts ourselves, without explaining them. When we asked for clarification, they refused to guide us. This raises questions about their hidden administrative charges. This hands-off approach led to them building the wrong colour for our cabinet while evading accountability. 3. Improper Paperwork There was no timeline provided in writing for the renovation work, resulting in repeated no-shows, empty promises, and delays. Despite being pressured to make early payments to prevent project delay, the project was still delayed. Their lack of scheduling contributed to a frustrating experience. 4. Lack of Communication with Subcontractors When subcontractors arrived for tiling work, they asked us how the tiles should be placed. This should have been clearly communicated by Carpentry Affairs. Their failure to direct subcontractors raised further questions about what we were paying for. 5. Lack of Transparency Carpentry Affairs seemed more concerned with profit than meeting our needs. They often undercut material choices or tried to dissuade us from our selections, only to charge hidden fees later for certain items. This bait-and-switch approach was dishonest and frustrating. 6. Contradictory Statements and Lack of Integrity We were rushed to pay deposit by someone who claimed to be a 'technical officer' as he has to seek approval from the management to proceed with the project. We later discovered that this 'technical officer' is actually the head of the company, undermining the statement about needing management approval. This contradictory information added to our concerns about their integrity. 7. Misleading Hacking Charges We were charged $1k for hacking, but instead, the new tiles were simply overlaid on the old ones. When we questioned it, we were told hacking would cost more, revealing that the initial charge was misleading. 8. No Site Visits Their site manager does not visit to check on the progress of the renovation, leading to delays as preparations were not made for the next phase. 9. Resistance to Feedback Despite raising renovation issues with them, they were dismissive and defensive, unwilling to correct their mistakes. Any attempts to engage felt pointless, as their primary concern was protecting their interests. Pros: Although administrative services were lacking, the carpenters they hired demonstrated quality workmanship. That was the one positive aspect in this otherwise challenging experience. In conclusion, our experience with them was plagued by a lack of professionalism, accountability, transparency, and integrity. If you are a careful homeowner, you’ll recognize these as serious red flags. With the same budget, you can find an interior designer who will serve with integrity. We hope this review helps you avoid making the same mistake we did.
Good experience with Carpentry Affairs. Bahrain and his team did a good job on my house. Overall I like their workmanship and their renovation work. Thank you very much Bahrain. Well done.
I contacted Carpentry Affairs on 11 Dec 2023 and one of their IDs Sarah was assigned to me shortly after. She arranged to meet me at her office and I travelled all the way down to Kaki Bukit for a 1 hour ++ discussion. Initially she was very enthusiastic and keen to take on my project but ultimately decided to go completely silent. No rejections were even communicated. I had followed up THRICE after going down to their office but she did not reply. No quotations were sent. She just went MIA. My husband and I are just extremely disappointed over the time wasted and all this childish behaviour of a grown up. If you do not want to take up my project just simply tell me no? Why waste my time and effort?
