Patients typically contact the clinic by WhatsApp, phone, or the online enquiry form to check appointment availability or walk-in waiting times. As a GP and pain-care practice, the clinic addresses general outpatient consultations alongside pain-management concerns. For straightforward acute presentations — fever, respiratory symptoms, skin conditions, minor injuries — a walk-in or same-day appointment is the norm at a private GP, with fees in the typical S$25–60 range before any investigations or prescriptions are added. For planned procedures or specialist-level pain management, patients should ask about referral pathways, pre-treatment cost estimates, and whether Integrated Shield Plan or CDMP coverage applies to their condition. MediSave outpatient withdrawal under the Chronic Disease Management Programme (up to S$700 per year) may be relevant for patients with chronic pain linked to qualifying conditions.
To get started, reach out via WhatsApp or phone to confirm current waiting times or book an appointment slot before attending the clinic at Stars of Kovan.
Verify the doctor's name on the Singapore Medical Council register and the clinic's MOH Healthcare Services Licence before booking, and for any planned procedure request a written financial counselling estimate that itemises insurance payout, MediSave deduction, and out-of-pocket portions before paying any deposit.
Today I called my usual clinic, but they were fully booked and the clinic assistant had no choice but to turn me away. I searched online and hesitated for a few moments about which clinics to select in my area, but ultimately decided against them. I remembered visiting DR+ Medical Paincare Clinic (Bishan) previously and having a positive impression of both the clinic assistants and doctor's service. I decided to try DR+ Medical Paincare Clinic (Kovan). The clinic assistants were pleasant and polite. Although we were the last patients of the day, Dr James Lee didn't rush us through our consultation. Instead, he was kind and patient, examining my child with care. After leaving his room, I suddenly had another question. He was gracious enough to invite us back into his room to take another look at my child and address my concern once more. Even whilst we were making payment and collecting our medication, he took the time to explain the dosing intervals to us. He was very reassuring throughout. Though the wait was long, I believe that when a doctor is skilled and able to diagnose well, it's worth it overall.
My family and I have frequented this clinic over the past few years and have benefited from Dr James’ care. During my visit today with my unwell toddler, another group who arrived after us was allowed to enter ahead of us. When I asked the front desk why, I was told it was because they were the doctor’s family. I later raised this directly with Dr James. He responded that he would choose family over patients and did not offer an apology or acknowledgement of how this might affect other patients. While I understand that exceptions should be made for medical emergencies, prioritisation in a clinic should be transparent and based on queue order or medical need, not personal connection. Using family status as the deciding factor is neither fair nor professional. I am sharing this experience so others can make an informed decision about whether to visit this clinic. This encounter left me disappointed and has made it difficult for me to return in future. Update to the clinic’s clarification: The explanation provided is misleading in the context of what happened. When I enquired, I was explicitly informed by the front desk that the patient was prioritised because they were the doctor’s family, and this was later reiterated directly to me twice by Dr James. Pre-registration and medical urgency were not cited as the reasons, nor was my 1+ year old son’s temperature taken prior to registration despite my disclosure that he had a fever. On this basis, it is unclear how the clinic could have determined who to see first on the basis of medical urgency.
Dr James is very caring and will always help his patients with cost saving tips. He takes really good care of my family, children and he remembers each of their needs. My husband and I have also taken our PRP for our knees with Dr James, who is very confident and advised us professionally on how to manage our pain. Thank you Dr James and his team of wonderful staff, always so attentive and polite!
Dr. James is really caring and patient, he is now our family doctor so whenever even my kids were unwell, he also took good care of them and they were all in speedy recovery. I also introduced to my friends around and with positive feedbacks. Thank you Dr. James for your hard work!!
I had a great experience at DR+ Medical Kovan. The staff were attentive, caring, and made me feel comfortable from the moment I arrived. Dr James was very friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly experienced, taking time to explain everything patiently. Highly recommended!

For a standard GP consultation at a private clinic, expect to pay S$25–60 for the consultation itself. Add-ons billed on top typically include investigations (blood panel S$60–200, X-ray S$80–150, urine test S$20–50), prescriptions, and any dressings or minor procedures. If the visit involves pain-care assessment rather than a routine GP complaint, the consultation fee and any diagnostic workup may sit at the higher end of the range. For any planned procedure or repeat management, request a written cost estimate that separates out investigations, treatment, and follow-up fees. GST applies on private medical services. No regulatory licence details have been provided in the current listing for DR+ Medical and Paincare Kovan. Every legitimate clinic in Singapore holds an MOH Healthcare Services Licence under the Healthcare Services Act, verifiable on the MOH licensee directory. Every practising doctor must appear on the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) public register at smc.gov.sg — you can search by name to confirm registration status and any specialist accreditation. Before booking, particularly for pain-care consultations that may involve injections or longer-term management plans, it is advisable to verify both the clinic's MOH licence and the consulting doctor's SMC registration independently. Contact the clinic directly to ask for these details if they are not displayed on-site or on the clinic's website.
Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) layered on MediShield Life generally cover inpatient stays and day surgery at private facilities, but outpatient GP visits are typically self-pay unless your plan includes an outpatient rider. Confirm your plan's terms with your insurer before the visit. MediSave can be used for outpatient consultations under the Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP), which covers conditions including hypertension, diabetes, lipid disorders, asthma, and selected others, up to S$700 per year. For pain-related conditions that qualify under CDMP, ask the clinic whether they participate in the programme. For any planned procedure, request a financial counselling session and a written estimate splitting insurance, MediSave, and out-of-pocket portions before committing.
