About "English Essentials"
English Essentials is an enrichment provider operating islandwide from its centre at OUE Downtown Gallery on Shenton Way. It holds KakiList verified status, and its Google rating of 4.9 across 84 reviews is a moderate signal of consistent quality, though prospective families are encouraged to read individual reviews to assess fit with their child's level and learning style.
Families typically begin by enquiring about the appropriate level and syllabus fit for their child — whether that is MOE primary or secondary English, oral skills, creative writing, or examination preparation. It is worth confirming whether classes are conducted in small groups or on a one-to-one basis, as this affects pace and attention. Most enrichment providers offer a trial class before any term commitment is required, so ask about availability and whether a fee applies. Clarify also whether lessons are conducted in-person at the Shenton Way location or have an online option, and what the term length and absence make-up policy look like before signing up.
To take the next step, reach out to English Essentials via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to ask about current class schedules, level suitability, and trial class arrangements.
Take the trial class and confirm the tutor's actual credentials before committing to a term.
This shop is a little gem! Their selection of cards is wonderful, artisan, and very creative. There is an amazing selection of gifts from jewellery, to souvenirs, to gorgeous journals. The staff are very helpful and friendly and I will definitely be back next time I am looking for a unique and thoughtful gift.
I absolutely love this store! Wide variety of beautiful gifts to choose from ❤️ ~ Vivian and Yvonne are fantastic, always helping me out in finding that perfect gift for family and friends 🙏 Thank you both so much!
Centrally located in Shenton, their range of sustainable, (light weight) white wood necklaces, earrings, broaches are unique, cool and easy to match / pair with! Highly recommend. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I often come to buy their cards and my friends are always fascinated by their designs. I must say their cards are truly very unique compared to the conventional cards you see in bookstores. This is also a great place to buy gifts for your girlfriends, mothers and for anyone you are thankful for, so would definitely recommend checking out their one of a kind items. Stores like these are rare to come by!!
My go-to relaxing place where the owners are so friendly and passionate about the products they sourced for. Be prepared to spend some moolahs. you will be smiling home. promise!! All items are so cute and unique!

English Essentials displays a mid-range price indicator, though specific per-session fees are not published on this listing. In Singapore, English enrichment classes typically run on a per-session basis, a monthly package, or a fixed term fee — the structure can affect the effective cost significantly, so it is worth asking which model applies. Common extras to clarify include a one-off registration or materials fee, and whether a trial class is charged separately. Some providers offer sibling or multi-subject discounts. Confirm all costs in writing before committing to a term. See the full Enrichment Classes cost guide for Singapore →
Many English enrichment providers in Singapore offer a trial class so that students and parents can assess whether the teaching style, pace, and level are a good match before paying for a full term. It is advisable to ask English Essentials directly whether a trial is available, what it costs, and whether that fee is credited against the first term if you enrol. During a trial class, pay attention to how the tutor engages the student, whether the material is pitched at the right level, and whether the child feels comfortable asking questions. A single session is often enough to gauge basic fit, though some students need two or three sessions to settle in. If a formal trial is not available, ask whether you can observe a class before making a decision.
Specific tutor credentials are not listed in the available provider data for English Essentials. For an English enrichment provider, relevant qualifications to ask about include a degree in English Language, Linguistics, or Literature, NIE training or prior MOE teaching experience, and familiarity with the current MOE English Language syllabus at the relevant level. If your child is preparing for PSLE, O-Level, or A-Level examinations, also ask whether tutors are up to date with the latest marking schemes and examination formats, as these are revised periodically. Contact English Essentials directly via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to request details on tutor backgrounds before committing to a term.
