I repeatedly asked the doctor whether eyelid inflammation was contagious, as my child had no red eye or discharge. The doctor stated that it was contagious. However, medically, eyelid inflammation such as blepharitis or a stye is generally not contagious, unlike conjunctivitis (pink eye), which can be viral or bacterial and spread to others. This misunderstanding regarding contagiousness caused difficulties with my child’s return to school and resulted in significant inconvenience, as we had to seek a second opinion at KKH. The doctor at KKH confirmed that the condition was a stye and not contagious.
