About Food Playground

About Food Playground

Food Playground is a culinary education provider based at 24A Sago St in the Chinatown Conservation District, offering holiday camps and cooking classes across Singapore. It is KakiList-verified and ACRA-registered, with a 4.9/5 rating across 5,264 Google reviews — a robust sample that points to consistently positive participant experiences. Pricing is positioned at the mid-range ($$) though exact per-session figures were not provided at the time of listing.

Families typically begin by enquiring about the appropriate age group and programme theme for an upcoming school holiday, then confirm whether the camp runs as a half-day or full-day format and what the group size looks like. Food Playground's camps are structured around hands-on cooking, so it is worth asking which cuisines or techniques are covered in a given intake, whether a trial or single-session option exists before committing to a multi-day camp, and whether materials and ingredients are included in the fee. Location-wise, the Sago Street studio is accessible via Chinatown MRT (NE and DT lines), and it is worth confirming whether satellite or pop-up sessions are held elsewhere for those travelling from further afield.

To secure a place, contact Food Playground directly via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form on their listing — holiday camp slots, particularly during the June and December school breaks, tend to fill quickly, so early registration is advisable.

My husband and I had a lot of fun at our Food Playground cooking class while on a recent trip to Singapore. Our teacher, YY, was pleasant, patient, and engaging, and brought a personal touch to the class by sharing stories about her family. in addition to guiding our preparation of Char Kway Teow, Nyonyah Popiah, and Sago Gula Melaka, she also taught us about local specialties and ingredients that Singapore is known for. Our group of 8 students was a good size--we were able to chat together while also having a chance to prepare our own dishes. And Ms. Lee, who did much of the food preparation and clean-up, made our job as students easy. The final results were delicious, and we got to bring home not just the recipes but also our memories of a unique experience. Highly recommend!

I would like to commend Mdm Kiat Hui, Mdm Helen, and Mdm Lee for their friendliness and helpfulness. They were warm, supportive, and guided us patiently on how to bake a burnt cheesecake like professionals. They exceeded my expectations by delivering exceptional service throughout the session. Their professionalism and positive attitude made the entire experience truly enjoyable. I sincerely appreciate their efforts. Kudos to the team!

Something I never would have made at home but they gave great step by step instructions so now I can make this once i’m back home. Very delicious and a great way to learn the culture. Looking forward to coming back to learn more recipes next time I visit. Definitely recommend!!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Food Playground charge per session?

Food Playground does not publish exact per-session pricing on this listing, but its pricing is indicated at the mid-range ($$) for Singapore's culinary enrichment market. Holiday camp fees in this category typically vary depending on whether the programme is a half-day or full-day format, the number of days in the camp, and whether ingredients and materials are included. Before booking, confirm whether there is a separate registration or materials fee, whether sibling discounts apply, and what the cancellation or deferment policy is if your child is unwell. See the full holiday camps cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

It is worth asking Food Playground directly whether a single-session or trial option is available before enrolling in a multi-day holiday camp. Many culinary enrichment providers offer one-off classes alongside their structured camp programmes, which gives children and parents a chance to assess fit — teaching style, group dynamics, pacing, and whether the hands-on format suits the child's learning style. When evaluating a trial or introductory session, look at how actively each child is involved at the cooking station, the ratio of instruction time to hands-on practice, and whether the facilitator adapts to different age groups and skill levels within the same class.

What are the instructors' credentials at Food Playground?

Food Playground's listing does not specify individual instructor qualifications, though the programme is built around experiential culinary education rather than formal academic tutoring, so professional cooking experience and a structured curriculum design are the relevant benchmarks here. With 5,264 Google reviews at 4.9/5 — a robust sample — participant feedback is the strongest available signal of instructor quality and programme consistency. If specific instructor backgrounds matter to you, it is worth asking directly via WhatsApp or phone before booking, particularly for camps targeting older children or those with prior cooking experience who may benefit from a more advanced curriculum.
