Extremely Disappointed, Especially as a TBI Patient I need to share my experience — especially for anyone with traumatic brain injury (TBI) or long-standing neurological visual sensitivity. I travelled internationally after 15 years of post-head-injury visual issues. Before therapy, I could work full-time on a computer with careful pacing. After undergoing VR-inclusive vision therapy (including multiple VR exercises in one session), my symptoms significantly worsened. For the first two weeks, I could barely tolerate 15–30 minutes of screen time before severe head pressure and neurological overload. I am now in week 3 and still not back to my pre-therapy baseline. What disappointed me most was not just the flare — but the lack of communication and post-treatment care. When I reached out for help, I was later told my messages had been treated as “spam.” This explanation only came after I repeatedly followed up asking for assistance. I was not informed at the time that my messages were not being received — I was simply asked to repeat myself without clarification. It is difficult to understand how urgent care-related emails went to spam, while initial inquiries about the service and payment communications did not. When my condition deteriorated, I emailed Dr. Yap directly and clearly marked the situation as urgent. Those emails were never responded to. I did not rely solely on WhatsApp with the assistant — I contacted him personally. There was no reply. There was no proactive follow-up, no structured guidance, and no meaningful reassurance. I was advised to see a local doctor despite repeatedly explaining that I am not local and that my country does not have neuro-optometry services. I was also told to book a paid appointment, when I was simply asking for a call for advice and instruction. For an international patient, being told to “see someone else” without coordination felt dismissive. Regarding my TBI-related symptoms: when I reported feeling unwell after VR exercises, I was told it was “normal,” and therapy continued. Later, my worsening symptoms were attributed to “excessive screen use.” As someone who has managed this condition for 15 years, I know my baseline. The change after VR was immediate and significant. Reducing it to screen overuse felt overly simplistic and raised concerns for me about Dr. Yap’s knowledge and specialty in traumatic brain injury and the risks of VR-based therapy. Cost is another concern. They charge: $150 for a sick leave letter $180 for flipper glasses $50 for a barrel card $30 for a string All of these items can be purchased online (including on Shopee in Singapore) for around $15. Patients should be aware. *UPDATE: this is to respond to their response. - They charge an extra fee of 2,5-3% for paying by credit card, so i asked that it is included in one of the services so insurance can cover. it's quite irrelevant to bring that up here though. - The letter they provided did not match my request, so i asked for an ammendment, and they charged 150$. only after i raised my concerns to lots of official bodies to report them, did they get back offering to waive it. it was quite too late then as i was so disappointed i wanted none of their service anymore. Therapy sessions were strictly time-controlled (alarms set), which is understandable. However, 10–15 minutes of one paid therapy session were spent conducting a test, even though the evaluation was billed separately. Time was also spent setting up VR equipment during session time. Some testing and follow-up assessments felt very rushed as well considering the severity of my condition. I am writing this out of caution. If you have TBI, post-concussion syndrome, or neurological sensitivity, please ask detailed questions about: post-treatment protocols what happens if symptoms worsen continuity of care for international patients For me, this resulted in three weeks (and counting) of worsened neurological symptoms and significant distress. Please research carefully before committing.

I’m really thankful for IGARD and especially Valerie, I approached Dr Yap as I suspected that my vision issues are causing me regular (min 4 times a week) migraine. When Dr Yap told me about functional eye issues I was quite skeptical and didn’t know whether or not vision therapy would work as I’ve been living with migraines for 20 years. But Valerie has been the most patient and competent therapist. I am so thankful that Valerie is my therapist, she is attentive, she paces me well and knows to give me clear guidance to achieve my therapeutic goals. I can really sense her commitment and passion to all her clients as her students are happy to meet her. I have also experienced a significant reduction of migraine, and can sense a difference in my vision (especially my weaker eye). It’s really amazing. As someone in the helping profession and an adult patient, I do have some expectations for the services provided and Valerie has exceeded my expectations. I feel safe having her go through this with me and support me in strengthening my vision.

Wonderful experience with a wonderful knowledge eyecare practitioner. Kudos to Dr Yap for his expertise in helping my kid with her myopia control. They have also a great range of colourful kids frames EyeFlex junior...lightweight and colourful. Definitely a recommendation for parents.
