About Lao Ban Niang

About Lao Ban Niang

Lao Ban Niang is a confinement food caterer operating islandwide across Singapore, listed on KakiList with verified operating details. It holds a 3.6/5 rating across 22 Google reviews — a moderate sample, though the rating sits below the typical range for well-regarded confinement food providers and warrants attention. Pricing is positioned at a mid-range level; specific package costs are not publicly listed and should be confirmed directly.

Mothers typically begin by enquiring about the 28-day standard package, though shorter 7-day or 14-day trial options are worth asking about if you want to assess the food before committing to a full month. Confirm how many trays are included per day — the norm is two (lunch and dinner), with some caterers offering a breakfast addition — and clarify whether herbal soups, red dates tea, longan tea, and confinement tonics are bundled into the package price or billed separately. Ask about the dietary tradition (Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, or otherwise), whether the menu rotates daily, and whether dishes can be adjusted for breastfeeding mothers who prefer low-spice or alcohol-free options. Delivery is typically twice daily within a roughly four-hour cooked-to-delivery window; confirm the delivery slots and whether a surcharge applies to your address.

To get started, reach out to Lao Ban Niang via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to request a menu, confirm package pricing, and — if available — arrange a trial meal before paying any deposit.

Always go Lao Ban Niang for many years to get our stash of preserved tibits n nuts. So far it's the only stall i know that also sells Brazil nuts.

Insincere. Bought 50g of scallops to test and it was underweighted. Given that all these dried seafood products are expensive, only a manual scale is used instead of electronic. Also, no measures was taken to compensate for human error like giving few pieces more. Suggest buying from elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Lao Ban Niang charge for a confinement food package?

Lao Ban Niang has not publicly listed its package prices, so you will need to enquire directly for a current quote. For reference, the Singapore confinement food market typically prices a standard 28-day package at S$1,200–2,800, depending on the number of trays per day, whether herbal soups and tonics are included, and the dietary tradition offered. Shorter 7-day or 14-day options, where available, let you trial the food before committing to the full month. When you receive a quote, confirm whether herbal soups, red dates tea, longan tea, and confinement tonics are bundled or charged separately, and whether there is a delivery surcharge for your address. What dietary tradition does Lao Ban Niang follow, and is there a trial meal?

The specific dietary tradition Lao Ban Niang follows — Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Western postnatal, halal, or vegetarian — has not been confirmed in the available listing data. This is an important question to raise directly, as each tradition uses different ingredients, herbal profiles, and cooking methods. Ask whether the menu rotates day-to-day or repeats weekly, and whether dishes can be adjusted for breastfeeding mothers who prefer low-spice or rice-wine-free options. If a trial meal or single-day option is available, it is strongly advisable to order one before paying any package deposit. Confinement appetite and taste preferences shift significantly after birth, and a trial is the most reliable way to assess whether the food suits you.

Is Lao Ban Niang licensed and how is food safety handled?

No regulatory licences have been confirmed for Lao Ban Niang in the current listing data. Legitimate confinement food caterers operating in Singapore should hold an SFA Food Shop Licence or Catering Licence, and the hygiene grade (A being highest, then B, C, D) is a meaningful indicator of kitchen standards. Halal-certified providers additionally hold a MUIS certificate, which should appear on packaging. It is advisable to ask Lao Ban Niang directly for its SFA licence number and hygiene grade before committing to a package. Confinement meals should be cooked on the day of delivery and delivered hot in microwave-safe, BPA-free containers. Confirm the twice-daily delivery time slots and ask about the substitute or refund policy if a delivery is missed. Order a trial meal and confirm the SFA hygiene grade (and MUIS halal certificate if relevant) before paying the package deposit.
