About "Mandarin Stars"
Mandarin Stars is a private Mandarin tuition provider operating islandwide from a centre at 733 Bukit Timah Road, Second Avenue Junction. The listing is KakiList verified, meaning operating details and contact channels have been confirmed by a real person. It holds a Google rating of 4.9 out of 5 across 30 reviews — a moderate sample size that is encouraging but should be weighed alongside a direct conversation with the tutor.
Families interested in Mandarin tuition at Mandarin Stars would typically begin by enquiring about level and syllabus fit — whether the sessions are aligned to the MOE primary or secondary Chinese curriculum, the PSLE Higher Chinese paper, or another framework such as IGCSE. It is worth asking whether tuition is delivered one-to-one or in a small group, whether classes are held at the Bukit Timah centre or online, and what the term commitment looks like. Requesting a trial class before signing up for a full term is standard practice and gives both the student and parent a clear sense of teaching approach and whether the pace suits the learner.
To take the next step, reach out to Mandarin Stars via WhatsApp, phone, or the contact form to confirm current availability, ask about a trial class, and clarify which level and syllabus the tutor specialises in before committing to a term.
Take the trial class and confirm the tutor's actual credentials before committing to a term.
Teachers are great and has helped my kid with language difficulties and dyslexia (diagnosed) to cope with Chinese and has improved his Chinese progressively. More importantly, he has not shy away from lessons and grown to be more attentive as the lessons are geared in a manner that is suitable for his level so that he doesn’t feel overwhelmed or frustrated. The teachers also guided him well and that support is key for him to build confidence and want to improve .
The teachers at Mandarin Star are always so patient with my son. He is on the spectrum as well as ADHD, and they are able to handle him well. We come from a totally non-Chinese speaking family and he is able to recognize characters, his pronunciation needs work on but that’s a given since he is not exposed to it outside of class, but seeing him able to do homework on his own is already a great feat for us. Thank you Francis and teachers!
Our child has been taking classes at Mandarin Stars for almost a year. He previously attended an international school with minimal exposure to mandarin. The teachers have been incredibly patient and encouraging. I am glad to have Mandarin Stars on his journey !
Brandon really enjoys his lessons at Mandarinstars Learning. The classes include a fun points reward system — students earn points for doing well, and they can redeem gifts with their points. Brandon is always excited to tell me how many points he has collected! During the school holidays, he also enjoys the art lessons that incorporate Mandarin learning, making the experience both creative and educational. He always looks forward to attending his next class at Mandarinstars Learning.

A special thank you to Teacher Lay Yen, who has been exceptionally patient, encouraging, and committed. Her thoughtful guidance and sincere care have made a big difference. We are grateful for the support and would highly recommend Mandarin Star to anyone looking for a positive and effective Mandarin learning environment.

Mandarin Stars displays a mid-range price indicator, but specific per-session, monthly package, or term fee figures are not publicly listed. When you enquire, ask whether fees are charged per session or bundled into a monthly or term package, and whether a separate materials fee applies. It is also worth checking whether a trial class is offered at a reduced or standard rate, and whether sibling discounts or multi-subject packages are available. Fees for private Mandarin tuition in Singapore vary depending on group size, the tutor's background, and the level taught — one-to-one sessions at a centre in the Bukit Timah area typically run higher than group classes. Confirm all fees in writing before committing. See the full Private Tutors cost guide for Singapore →
A trial class is the most reliable way to assess whether a tutor's teaching style and pace suit your child before committing to a full term. When contacting Mandarin Stars, ask directly whether a trial session is available, what it costs, and whether that fee is offset against subsequent term fees if you proceed. During the trial, observe whether the session is pitched at the right level, whether the child is engaged, and whether explanations are clear. Also note how the tutor responds to errors — constructive correction is a strong indicator of effective language teaching. If your child is preparing for a specific exam, confirm during the trial that the tutor is familiar with the relevant marking rubric and exam format.
Specific credential information for Mandarin Stars is not publicly listed. When you make contact, it is reasonable to ask about the lead tutor's educational background — for example, whether they hold a degree in Chinese Studies, Linguistics, or Education, and whether they have NIE training or prior MOE school teaching experience. Also ask how long they have been teaching Mandarin at the level your child requires, and which syllabuses they have experience with — MOE primary or secondary Chinese, PSLE Higher Chinese, IGCSE Chinese, or others. A tutor familiar with current MOE syllabus changes and marking trends will typically be better placed to prepare students for school assessments. If credentials matter to your decision, request to see them directly before committing.
