handcrafted furniture studio / woodworking courses
Homeowners contacting Mokko Wood Studio typically ask about Carpentry. The team positions itself as a working home services outfit rather than a generalist, so you can expect questions about scope, access, and timing before a quote is confirmed.
Mokko Wood Studio covers all of Singapore, which is useful if you live in a less-central estate or need a provider that can follow a recurring job to different addresses. The business is KakiList-verified, meaning a real person has confirmed the operating details and contact channel. Google reviewers currently give Mokko Wood Studio a strong average of 5/5 across 67 reviews, which is a reasonable signal of consistency for a home services provider.
The practical way to decide on Mokko Wood Studio is to message them directly with a short job description, property type, and any relevant photos. Direct contact means no platform middleman and usually a faster response than form-based lead submissions.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Shokunin Beginner course with Alvan. He’s an amazing teacher — very patient, detailed, and genuinely passionate about sharing the craft of Japanese woodworking. His storytelling added so much depth and made the lessons come alive. Even though most of us were completely new to woodworking, with Alvan’s clear explanations and calm guidance, we all managed to complete a beautiful tool box each. It was such a rewarding and inspiring experience — highly recommended!
I recently completed a 3-day beginner workshop at Mokko Wood Studio, and it was an enlightening introduction to Japanese woodworking. Our instructor, Johanna, was exceptional in her teaching methods, seamlessly blending history, theory, and practical skills into each session. Johanna emphasized the importance of discipline and good habits right from the start, ensuring that we understood not just the 'how' but also the 'why' behind each technique. Her lessons on caring for our tools were particularly impactful, instilling a sense of respect and responsibility towards our equipment. The course went beyond just teaching skills; it imparted valuable lessons as well. The phrase "never cut corners," which I had heard before but never fully grasped, took on a new meaning as I learned to apply painstaking attention to details in every process. Looking forward to continue my journey in the intermediate course at Mokko Wood Studio. For anyone interested in diving deep into the world of woodworking with a thoughtful and meticulous approach, I highly recommend this workshop.
The Shokunin Beginners course was definitely one of my most memorable experiences. Alvan was not only extremely knowledgeable but also conveyed the essence of Japanese woodworking beautifully. Looking forward to attending his classes again!
Totally enjoyed immersing myself in the world of Japanese woodworking here. Sensei Alvan did an excellent job of introducing us to basic tools & principles of a shokunin. I got my very own kanna, learnt about its parts, how to level, polish, sharpen the main blade until it shaved off sensei’s hairs on his arm. Then to mate the main blade to the wooden dai. Tuning the base of the dai and then tuning the blade to stick out of the dai at a fraction of a hairline thickness was insane but satisfying! My kanna can definitely shave paper thin shavings but the user (me) needs more practice. Sensei makes it look easy but trust me, it takes many hours to perfect the skill of planing. Another tool i learnt is the double edged hand saw. It is so sharp and efficient you only need 2 fingers to saw anything. The most easy tool to use for beginners, imo. We also made a toolbox from scratch which i love very much and is on display at home now, to house my kanna, whetstone and sashigane. The muscles on my arms are still aching but my soul is inspired to hold onto the spirit and disciplines of woodwork. Thank you very much sensei. Highly recommended for green beginners like me.
I’ve had the greatest luck to find myself in an all ladies class lead by Johanna senpai for the Nov 2024 beginner’s course. Just like their passion for woodmaking, Mokko’s classes were crafted with a lot of heart and thought. Over one weekend, I’ve picked up not just basic carpentry skills, but a whole lot about the philosophy of Japanese craftsmanship. There’s a lot to learn so do bring a pen and notebook! Johanna senpai teaches with exceptional authenticity, patience and passion for wood-making, it’s simply inspiring. Being an alumni of Suikoushya in Japan, she embodies the discipline and attitude of a Japanese craftsman and this is invaluable knowledge she tries to impart in her classes. At the end of each day, she also made us do reflections, deepening what we’ve learnt in the course of that day. I’ll highly recommend the course to anyone. With the small class size and superb guidance you’ll get, it is very manageable even for female participants. Very grateful to Alvan for making the art of Japanese woodmaking accessible locally. どうもありがとう!🙇🏻♀️
