We selected Mu Design Studio because of its aesthetically pleasing designs. Xavier, the interior designer, has been very helpful and accommodating. Our renovation took longer than expected because of the Chinese New Year break and the massive overhaul done to the house. That gave us a lot of anxiety but Xavier was patient throughout and delivered the house to us. Rectification works were prompt and Xavier stayed committed to ensuring any defects were corrected even after the handover. Mu Design Studio is not the cheapest quote, however, we are thankful quality work has been delivered.

I recently worked with Xavier from Mu Design Studio for a home renovation and am very pleased with the results. The sleek, minimalistic design was exactly what I wanted. Xavier managed everything from sourcing materials to coordinating with contractors, keeping the project on schedule and within budget. Communication was clear throughout. My home now feels more spacious and inviting. I highly recommend Xavier for anyone looking for a talented and reliable interior designer.

Our Experience with Mu Design Studio & Xavier: We engaged Mu Design Studio and worked with Xavier for our home renovation. While we had high hopes, the experience was challenging due to project delays, coordination issues, and multiple rectifications that required our active involvement. 1. Project Delays & Communication Gaps The renovation took over a month longer than originally planned. (Started in early Jul 2024 and expected to complete in Oct 2024, but ended in late Nov 2024) While we had requested VOs (eg additional carpentry work) early (half a month before the original handover date) which were completed within two weeks after the original deadline. However, other outstanding works (from the main scope of renovation) remained uncompleted. Also, We were not consistently updated on the progress, and we only found out outstanding items after requesting an update on the original handover date itself. (What if we had stayed totally hands off?!) Even after the official handover date, some areas required further rectifications, such as unpatched balcony walls, incorrect switches, and incomplete installations. (See attached pictures/videos) 2. Electrical Work & Coordination Issues We encountered issues with ceiling fan installations due to miswiring, which required us to arrange for the fan supplier’s service team to rectify. Later, we also discovered that the wrong fan motors were installed, resulting in weaker airflow. We had to cover an $80 service fee for correction by the manufacturer (as the electricians provided by the ID insisted it was not an installation issue). Additionally, based on prework recommendations, we purchased more switches than necessary, leading to excess materials. Both of the above issues were reimbursed by the ID. 3. Resolution & Final Settlement Given the delays and additional efforts required from us, we initially proposed a reduced final payment, offering to pay half of the remaining 5%. After almost three months, Xavier finally responded and requested a lump sum amount (about two-thirds of the remaining 5%). To close the matter, we agreed and made the payment as we do not wish to communicate with him further. Final Thoughts While Xavier was responsive in making rectifications when issues were raised, the overall process required significant follow-ups from us. We believe that better project management, clearer communication, and proactive oversight would have resulted in a smoother experience. This is a summary of our personal experience, and we recommend that potential homeowners carefully consider their options when choosing an interior designer.

We recently undertook a new home renovation, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results with MU design Studio. The entire process was both challenging and rewarding, transforming my living space into a cozy and functional home. From the outset, we knew we wanted to create a japandi concept and inviting atmosphere. Ultimately, we engaged MU design studio (Xavier) who helped us envision the possibilities, after running through a few ID companies. In terms of pricing, MU was the most competitive and Xavier’s initial sketch was inline with what we had in mind. Xavier was very professional, patient and delicate in the details of the entire renovation process. He listens and gave constructive/ economical idea to us whenever we couldn’t made decision. During the process, we made some amendments, Xaiver was able to handle it with any fuss. No doubt there were hiccups along the way, Xaiver had managed to resolved it to our satisfaction. Indeed, we had a good experience with MU Design Studio! Kudos to Xaiver!!! But we felt there’s still room for improvement, especially on the carpentry work!
