When i found out I was pregnant, I knew I needed to hire a confinement food service to make our life easier in the first few weeks. I tried five different confinement meal services before eventually settling with Mama J for several reasons: 1) I liked the taste of their food the most 2) Unlike other confinement services they're a small business 3) Their food is delivered in reusable thermal containers. I've completed my confinement meal package with Mama J and I can say that I loved the experience. I enjoyed most of the dishes and I always finish my meals down to the very last grain of rice. I have to admit that I did not enjoy some of the herbal soups (some of them tasted sweet), but I know they were for my own good so I drank them all anyway. I went with 14 days of confinement meal since I value variety in my meals and expected that I would get bored after 2 weeks. Of course, Mama J's menu has a lot of variety and does not repeat, but I need variety in terms of cuisine. I was correct that I did get quite bored of all the confinement food towards the end of the 14 days - I started thinking about what I'd eat the next day after my last meal was dropped off. However, the excitement quickly turned into regret as I started missing the convenience a few days later. Looking back, I really could have gone with the 28-day meal since Mama J is flexible about pausing the meal. I could just choose to pause whenever I needed a break from eating confinement food. So yes, if I were to give birth again, hiring a confinement meal service would be my number one priority.
Worms in the food - SFA needs to investigate this place! Unbelievable, they are serving this to new mothers who are immunocompromised. When notified, they simply offered to refund the undelivered meals - extremely irresponsible. Gross hygiene issues aside, food was of poor taste and quality - often overseasoned.
Delivery has always been prompt and well within the designated hours, which is great. Some days the food are really delicious, while other times it can be bland or too salty or a bit soggy. Consistency could be improved. I have occasionally found hair strands in the food and the container rubber have mold, which also raises hygiene concerns. Overall, itβs a mixed experience for me.
Confinement is finally over!! π₯³ Tried two different services: Tian Wei (first confinement) and Mama J (recent confinement). Here's my comparison: Tian Wei: - Great service & responsive - Food was not my favourite, but it was fusion-style with premium ingredients like scallops and abalone - Affordable pricing ($1800+ for 28 days lunch & dinner) - Convenient packaging - no need to rinse containers! - Delivery timing was pretty consistent. Mama J: - Slow reply on whatsapp - Hidden clauses in the package (e.g. only two menu change requests) - More expensive ($2070 when discounted at baby fair for 28 days lunch & dinner) - I had to specify nut-free meals due to allergies and avoid pig trotter, but was limited by the request policy. - Unexpected requirements, like washing and returning containers (not ideal for confinement. Order if you love washing.) - meal tastes were a little inconsistent. Braised pork tasted sweet (sugar sweet) instead of salty. - inconsistent delivery timing cause all's sent by outside vendors. (Eg. Meals can come at 720pm but needs to be consumed by 7.30pm) Overall, Tian Wei's service and value won me over. Unfortunately, my experience with Mama J was disappointing, and i wouldn't recommend their service.
I'm so happy to receive this pink bento set, "Happy Recovery Meal". The bento set includes: - Vegetable of the day - Meat of the day - Herbal soup of the day - Mama J's Roasted Brown Rice Tea - Adorably Designed Fragrant White Rice (brown rice option available too!) It was such a comforting meal to enjoy while I'm unwell. Nourishing and tasty! Highly recommend to try out their wide varieties option on their menu!
