About NHG Hougang Polyclinic
NHG Hougang Polyclinic is a public primary care clinic located at 89 Hougang Ave 4, serving residents across Hougang and the broader north-east region. KakiList has verified the operating details and contact channel. The clinic holds a 3.3/5 rating across 348 Google reviews — a robust sample size, though the rating sits below the 4.0 threshold that would indicate consistently strong patient experience. No regulatory licences are recorded in this listing; as a National Healthcare Group polyclinic, it operates under MOH's public primary care framework, but parents and patients should confirm current accreditation details directly with the clinic.
As a public polyclinic, NHG Hougang Polyclinic follows the standard subsidised care pathway: Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents access GP consultations at subsidised rates (typically S$8–50 depending on citizenship status and Merdeka or Pioneer Generation card eligibility), with Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP) coverage available for listed conditions including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, asthma, and selected mental health conditions. Referrals to public hospital specialist outpatient clinics (SOCs) are issued here, which unlocks subsidised specialist care at S$30–80 per visit for citizens — considerably less than the S$120–250 for a direct private specialist consultation. MediSave can be used for CDMP-listed conditions under the S$500–700 outpatient withdrawal limits. The National Childhood Immunisation Programme (NIP) schedule is administered at polyclinics, and developmental milestone checks for children are conducted here before onward referral if needed.
To make an appointment, contact NHG Hougang Polyclinic by phone or through the online form, or book via the HealthHub app, which allows queue registration and appointment scheduling across NHG polyclinics.
Verify the doctor's name on the Singapore Medical Council register and the clinic's MOH Healthcare Services Licence before booking, and for any planned procedure request a written financial counselling estimate that itemises insurance payout, MediSave deduction, and out-of-pocket portions before paying any deposit.
Dear Management Team, I am writing to formally raise my dissatisfaction with the patient management and overall experience at your Polyclinic during my husband’s recent visit. After completing his required tests, my husband waited close to three hours to see the doctor. This was despite the fact that he had been fasting since 8:00 PM the night before, as instructed for his tests. When we approached the nursing station to enquire whether the results were ready for review, we were informed that there was only one doctor on duty, and therefore the waiting time would be significantly longer. I highlighted clearly that my husband had been fasting since the previous night. The response we received was that there were vending machines selling sandwiches and drinks, which I find highly inappropriate and lacking basic clinical sensitivity. A fasting patient should not be dismissed in such a manner, especially after an extended waiting period. Subsequently, we were directed by the station nurse to another area, being told that there were more doctors available on the other side. This contradictory instruction further reflects poor coordination and organisation within the clinic, adding unnecessary confusion and stress to patients who have already waited for hours. What concerns me most is that there were elderly patients present, some of whom were clearly struggling with the prolonged waiting time. Such conditions are unacceptable in a public healthcare setting, where vulnerable patients should be prioritised and properly managed. I strongly urge management to review: Doctor deployment and patient flow management Handling and prioritisation of fasting patients Communication consistency among staff Waiting time management, especially for elderly patients This feedback is raised with the expectation that concrete improvements will be made to prevent similar experiences in the future. Patients should not be left waiting for hours without clear updates, empathy, or proper care considerations.

Really impressed with how helpful the staff are! :) Made reservation for the last slot of the day. Arrived 5 min late for my queue. I was There were 15 people ahead of me and the wait time was 1hr. I had a book and waited. Halfway thru one of the doctors on another floor had capacity so he also started helping which cut it down to 30 min. Doctor was very helpful and gave some referrals. Medicine was also efficiently dispensed. Staff were everywhere at each station guiding older patients on what to do. Theres also a BMI machine free to use. Overall I’m just really happy and impressed with this whole polyclinic :)
I had a bad experience with the doctor Dr Youwen Yeap , MD that consulted me today. He did not advise the fees of the X-ray and whether or not i should be taking it. He just asked if I wanted to do it, and after I said yes, and just told me that he would see me later after the x ray. The waiting time was suppose to be 1-1.5hr for the result. However, he called me earlier than 1hr so I missed my turn. So I waited for my number to be called again. He mentioned that there was nothing wrong with my bones. And he did not seemed concerned about my knees condition although I mentioned that it was hurting. He also appeared to be impatient and frustrated when my sister asked him about how my leg condition could be treated. He then suggested the referral of the physio to other polyclinics locations, but he was not updated or aware that recently this location has physio too. Also, he only mentioned Khoo Teck phuat for MRI after my sister asked him if there was alternative ways to check further on what is the issue with my knees . In conclusion he seemed least interested in my condition. And I am disappointed at his way of handling my knees condition. I hope this polyclinic would look into this matter and provide better aid for those who has knee issues that are not bone related.

As a public polyclinic, NHG Hougang Polyclinic charges subsidised rates for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. A standard GP consultation typically costs S$8–23 for Citizens (with Pioneer and Merdeka Generation cardholders paying less), S$14–37 for PRs, and full unsubsidised rates for foreigners. Investigations such as blood panels, urine tests, and X-rays are billed separately at subsidised rates. For CDMP-covered chronic conditions, MediSave can be used under the S$500/year (standard outpatient) or S$700/year (CDMP) withdrawal limits. Specialist referrals from this polyclinic unlock subsidised SOC visits at public hospitals, typically S$30–80 for Citizens versus S$120–250 for direct private specialist access. Medications dispensed on-site are billed separately, though subsidised. Confirm the current fee schedule with the clinic directly, as rates are periodically revised by MOH. NHG Hougang Polyclinic operates as part of the National Healthcare Group primary care network under MOH's public healthcare framework. No regulatory licences are listed in this KakiList entry, so patients should confirm the clinic's current MOH Healthcare Services Licence status directly with NHG or via the MOH licensee directory at moh.gov.sg. Every practising doctor at the polyclinic should be registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) — verifiable by name at smc.gov.sg, which also shows specialist accreditation and any disciplinary history. Family physicians with the MCFP(S) or FCFP(S) fellowship have completed structured family medicine training beyond basic MBBS. For any planned investigation or referral, ask the attending doctor to explain the clinical rationale, expected timeline, and next steps in writing where possible.
At a public polyclinic, MediSave can be used for outpatient treatment of CDMP-listed chronic conditions — hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, stroke, asthma, COPD, selected mental health conditions, and others — under the S$700/year withdrawal limit. For non-CDMP outpatient visits, the standard S$500/year MediSave withdrawal limit applies for selected outpatient treatment. Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) generally do not cover polyclinic GP consultations directly, as these are outpatient primary care rather than hospitalisation or day surgery. However, a polyclinic referral letter to a public hospital SOC is the gateway to subsidised specialist care where IP coverage may apply for subsequent inpatient or day-surgery episodes. If you hold a Pioneer or Merdeka Generation card, present it at every visit — the additional subsidy is applied at the point of billing and cannot easily be claimed retroactively. For planned procedures arising from a polyclinic referral, request a written financial counselling estimate from the receiving hospital that itemises insurance, MediSave, and out-of-pocket portions before consenting to treatment.
