I didn’t realize that even here in Singapore, it’s still possible to find a single large pot of food meant to serve four people. The portions are so generous that even though we tried our best, we simply couldn’t finish everything, and thankfully, we were able to pack the leftovers home. It’s rare these days to find a place that serves food in such abundance without compromising on taste or quality. The dishes were absolutely delicious—rich in flavor, comforting, and satisfying—and it’s clear that this restaurant has been doing things right for many, many years. The combination of hearty portions, excellent taste, and a long-standing reputation makes it a truly memorable dining experience, one that I would happily return to again and again.

It had been a long time since my last visit to Qi Wei Ji Bao Kovan. The broth tasted saltier than I remembered and the chicken meat wasn’t as tender as before. Service was average — one lady was actively helping customers with broth refills, but for canned drinks and ice cube you had to get yourself through self-service.

Went there for dinner and ordered their signature claypot broth paired with chicken at medium spicy level. The broth came with pieces of chicken breast and drumstick in a rich herbal soup, topped with onions and Chinese coriander. While the flavor of the herbs and spices was distinct, we found the medium spicy level a little too strong for our liking — it overpowered the broth slightly, making it hard to fully enjoy the herbal notes. The dish was served in a claypot set over a portable stove, keeping the soup bubbling hot throughout the meal, which was a nice touch. They have an interesting concept where you can pick your own side dishes from the fridge — options include vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, and various meats. Each plate is charged individually, with meats priced higher than the other ingredients. Drinks, condiments, and cutlery are all self-service. If you’re driving, parking can be tricky, but you can park at Kovan Market nearby. Overall, the staff were friendly and accommodating. I’d definitely go for a milder spice level next time, and would love to try their clear herbal soup on my next visit.
