Families looking to engage a tutor through StarTutor Agency typically begin by enquiring about the subject, academic level, and syllabus alignment required — whether that is the MOE mainstream curriculum, PSLE, O-Level, A-Level, IB, or IGCSE. From there, parents can discuss whether a group setting or one-to-one arrangement is more appropriate for the child's learning style and budget, as well as whether sessions will be conducted at home, at a fixed location, or online. It is worth clarifying the term commitment expected, any trial arrangement available, and how tutor matching is handled should the initial pairing not suit the student.
To take the next step, contact StarTutor Agency via phone or the online enquiry form to describe your child's level, subjects, and preferred schedule, and ask about current tutor availability and how a suitable match is made.
Take the trial class and confirm the tutor's actual credentials before committing to a term.
Ms Sharon Tan is a wonderful science tutor. She is patient, clear in her explanations, and adapts her teaching to suit each child’s pace. My kids enjoy her lessons and have become more confident in science. We’ve seen steady improvement and are very happy with her support. Highly recommended.
i have been using smile tutor agency for my daughter science and maths tuition. Both teachers are very professional and give concrete feedback. I see improvement in her exam result. Good job Mr Solomon and ms Aishah...
An excellent Maths tutor for my Primary 6 daughter. She is patient, clear in her explanations, and knows exactly how to break down difficult concepts. My daughter has gained confidence and shows much better understanding in Maths. Highly recommended!
My kids have had 3 lessons with Mr Sun so far. He has always been punctual and never rushes thru his lessons with my kids. After every lesson he provides an update of what was covered and how the kids were doing. My kids so far enjoy his lessons and understand what is being taught. Would definitely recommend him. He is amazing!
This is the third tutor we’ve engaged from SmileTutor for my son.Outstanding service! Our first tutor was for English- Ms Izyan, the second for Secondary E-Math- Mr Jason, and the third for GCE O-Level Biology-Mr Hafiz. Each time, the tutors have been knowledgeable, patience and well-matched to my son’s learning needs. The lessons are affordable and the agency has done a great job in matching tutors who suit our expectations. The staff is very prompt in their reply too. We’re very happy with the service and will definitely continue using SmileTutor in the future!

Fees for private tutors arranged through StarTutor Agency will vary depending on the tutor's qualifications, the academic level of the student, and whether sessions are conducted one-to-one or in a small group. As a general guide, the Singapore private tuition market ranges from around S$30–50 per hour for part-time tutors at primary level, up to S$80–150 or more per hour for experienced MOE-trained or graduate tutors at secondary and junior college levels. Ask StarTutor Agency whether fees are quoted per session or as a monthly package, and whether there are additional charges for materials or administrative fees. Some agencies charge a placement or registration fee separately from the tutor's hourly rate. See the full private tutors cost guide for Singapore →
Tutor agencies typically facilitate a trial session or an initial introductory lesson before parents commit to an ongoing arrangement. This gives both the student and the tutor an opportunity to assess compatibility in terms of teaching style, pacing, and rapport — all of which affect how effectively a student engages with the material. When arranging a trial, consider observing whether the tutor adapts explanations to the student's gaps, whether the level of difficulty is appropriate, and whether the student feels comfortable asking questions. Clarify upfront whether the trial lesson is charged at the standard rate or at a reduced fee, and what the notice period is if you decide not to proceed after the trial.
Tutor credentials available through an agency can vary considerably — from undergraduates and graduates tutoring part-time, through to full-time tutors with MOE teaching experience or NIE-trained backgrounds. The level of qualification typically correlates with the fee band, and it is reasonable to ask StarTutor Agency directly about the specific tutor's academic background, teaching experience, and familiarity with the relevant syllabus before committing. For higher-stakes subjects or examination years such as PSLE, O-Levels, or A-Levels, it is especially worthwhile to confirm whether the proposed tutor has a track record with that specific examination and curriculum. If you have a preference for an MOE-trained or NIE-certified tutor, state this clearly when making your enquiry.
