About The Alternative Story

About The Alternative Story

The Alternative Story is an education provider specialising in test preparation and admissions, based at Jubilee Square in Ang Mo Kio and serving students islandwide. Parents and students typically begin by enquiring about level and syllabus fit — whether the focus is PSLE, DSA, secondary school admissions, or a specific entrance examination. It is worth clarifying whether tuition is offered in group or one-to-one format, as both affect pacing and cost. Many providers in this segment offer a trial class before any term commitment is required, which gives families a practical way to assess teaching style and whether the level is appropriately pitched. Confirming the syllabus alignment upfront — particularly for specialised admissions tracks — will help ensure the programme matches the student's specific target school or examination.

To take the next step, reach out to The Alternative Story directly via WhatsApp, phone, or the enquiry form to discuss your child's level, target examination, and preferred schedule, and ask about trial class availability before committing to a full term.

It’s been such a good journey with TAS (AMK Branch). My daughter has been with them since P3 and took the regular English class that covers Paper 1, Paper 2, and Oral. I never had to worry about whether everything would be covered—their programmes are well-structured and organised. The materials are detailed yet concise, and easy for students to understand and use. A special shout-out to Teacher Andy. My daughter genuinely enjoyed his lessons. He’s encouraging, keeps the kids engaged, and provides regular, clear feedback so we can work on her weaker areas together. His guidance was consistent and practical. Under his guidance, my daughter achieved AL1 in her 2025 PSLE English. She was over the moon when she saw the result, and we were so proud. We’re truly grateful for Tr Andy’s commitment, care, and dedication.

We are incredibly grateful to have Tr Elaine teaching both my boys. She is such a dedicated and caring English teacher and consistently goes above and beyond for her students — often giving extra lessons on her own time for the psle kids and patiently working with them on their weak areas until they improve. What we appreciate most is how intentional she is about understanding each child’s needs and tailoring her guidance accordingly. Her commitment, encouragement and belief in her students truly make a difference. Under her watch and guidance, my son Elliott managed to score an AL2, which we are extremely thankful for. This achievement would not have been possible without her time, effort and genuine dedication. Highly recommended to any parent looking for a teacher who truly cares about her students’ growth and progress!

My son has been with TAS since Primary 2 and he was privileged to have Teacher Elaine and Teacher Joanne teaching him. Teacher Elaine is always ensuring I am kept updated on his progress and she takes time to have calls with me to go through his weak areas and how she intends to help him. It also helps that her method of teaching is well received by my son and he listens to her and applies accordingly. Teacher Joanne took on my boy when he was entering into the PSLE year. Initially, I was concerned that his learning will be affected but he was very contented to stay on with Teacher Joanne. Teacher Joanne has gone beyond herself to ensure the my boy is always encouraged and motivated. She has also provided meaningful advice and insights on how I can support my boy at home. My son has managed to hold his consistent performance under her guidance and he scored AL1 for his PSLE. Special shoutout to both Teacher Elaine and Teacher Joanne for both their dedication and unwavering support.

My son has been taking lesson with Teacher Michelle from the beginning of the year. He really likes her teaching style and always enjoys learning under her guidance. Despite attending online, Teacher Michelle never fails to engage the students well and always gives clear explanations. She also gives detailed and personalised feedback about the student work and what they learn in class. Sincerely thankful to Teacher Michelle for her partnership in my son English learning journey. He got satisfying results all the way from WA till EOY! 🙏❤️

To Teacher Dione, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Teacher Dione for her dedication, patience, and support. She has been teaching my son, Gareth, since Primary 4 at TAS Jubilee Square. When Teacher Dione moved to the Djitsun Mall branch, my son chose to follow her as he likes her teaching style. During the PSLE period, Teacher Dione went above and beyond by providing extra lesson to ensure the students were well prepared. She consistently gave constructive feedback to parents and made efforts to encourage him to participate more in class and speak up, especially since he is weaker in oral skills and tends to be quiet. Her encouragement and belief in him helped to build his confidence. Under her good guidance, my son was able to achieve AL1 in his PSLE 2025. We are truly grateful for Teacher Dione’s commitment, care, and dedication. Thank you very much. Please continue to do your best!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does The Alternative Story charge per session?

The Alternative Story displays a mid-range price indicator, but specific per-session or monthly package fees are not publicly listed. In Singapore's test preparation and admissions segment, rates typically range from S$60–120 per session for group classes and S$100–200 or more for one-to-one coaching, depending on the level and examination type. Monthly packages and term-based fees are common and often work out to a lower effective per-session rate than ad hoc bookings. Confirm whether a trial class incurs a separate fee, whether learning materials are included in the quoted price, and whether sibling or package discounts apply. Ask for the fee schedule in writing before committing to a term. See the full Test Prep & Admissions cost guide for Singapore →

Can I try a class before committing?

Many test preparation and admissions providers in Singapore offer a trial class — either at a reduced rate or at the standard per-session price — before requiring a term commitment. A trial gives your child a chance to experience the teaching style, gauge whether the pace and level are appropriate, and assess how the tutor engages with the class. When attending a trial, observe whether the content is aligned to the specific examination your child is preparing for, whether questions from students are welcomed, and whether the session feels purposeful rather than generic. Contact The Alternative Story directly via WhatsApp or phone to ask about trial class availability and any associated cost before enrolling.

What are the tutors' credentials at The Alternative Story?

Specific tutor credentials for The Alternative Story are not listed in the available data. For test preparation and admissions coaching, relevant qualifications to ask about include NIE or MOE teaching experience, degree discipline, and direct familiarity with the target examination — whether that is PSLE, DSA, secondary school aptitude tests, or other admissions assessments. It is also worth asking how long each tutor has been coaching for the specific examination track your child needs, and whether the teaching approach is aligned to the current syllabus. The high volume of Google reviews suggests sustained demand and repeat engagement, but confirming the individual tutor's background directly with the centre is always advisable before signing up for a term.
