Families typically begin by reaching out via WhatsApp, phone, or the online enquiry form to discuss the student's level, subject needs, and syllabus alignment — whether MOE, IB, IGCSE, or otherwise. From there, it is worth clarifying whether sessions are conducted one-to-one or in small groups, how frequently lessons are scheduled, and whether tuition takes place in-person or online. Asking about a trial class before committing to a term package is a sensible step, as it allows both the student and the tutor to assess rapport, pacing, and whether the approach suits the learner's needs.
To get started, send a WhatsApp message or fill in the contact form with your child's school level, subject, and any upcoming examinations — this gives The Science of Studying the information needed to recommend the right format and confirm availability.
Take the trial class and confirm the tutor's actual credentials before committing to a term.
As a parent, I am impressed by teacher Valerie’s commitment to effective teaching. Lessons are well-planned, concepts are explained clearly, and learning is enhanced through practical examples and activities. The teacher is patient, approachable, and encourages students to think critically. My child has gained confidence and a genuine interest in Bio/Chem under this teacher Valerie’s guidance. Highly recommended! A genuine teacher who teaches from the heart.
Before results in Prelim: C5 O Levels: A2 I really recommend Ms Val if you need help with pure biology. She has MANY reliable and easy to understand notes along with study material that help build and further develop proficiency is pure biology. Her homework helpline is also really good. If you want to score well, print mock papers, do snd then send to her.
Teacher Valerie (Bio) and Wee leng (chemistry) taught my girl in both subjects. They are very committed in their teaching and guided her closely. She has gotten B3 for her O levels in both subjects when she struggled with passing from sec 3. Before the O levels, they are also committed to giving extra classes to ensure the students are ready. Thumbs up for their commitment and effort! Thanks for coaching Jolie!
vv good tuition!!! teacher valerie is very kind, motivating and patient, she never meanly ridicules us if we dk something but teaches the topic again well! i appreciate how much effort she puts in, she always takes time to go through everything we ask no matter what. The notes are also superrr good and concise covering every detail we need to know, but not overbearing! tysm for helping us thru o levels 🙏🙏
Tuition is really great. I enjoyed the lessons by Ms Wee Leng and help offered by other teachers as well through the SOS hotline. Ms Wee Leng is a very passionate teacher who teaches chemistry really good. Highly recommended!

The Science of Studying displays a mid-range ($$) price indicator, though exact per-session or monthly package fees are not publicly listed and should be confirmed directly with the provider. In the Singapore private tutoring market, rates typically vary based on the tutor's qualifications, the student's level, and whether sessions are one-to-one or in a small group. When enquiring, ask whether a trial class attracts a separate fee, whether materials or workbooks are charged separately, and whether sibling or multi-subject package discounts are available. Some providers also offer term-based commitments at a reduced per-session rate. See the full Private Tutors cost guide for Singapore →
Many private tutoring providers offer a trial class — either at a reduced rate or as part of a first-session arrangement — so that students and parents can assess fit before signing up for a full term. It is worth asking The Science of Studying directly whether this option is available and what it costs. During a trial, pay attention to whether the tutor pitches the content at the right level, how clearly concepts are explained, and whether the student feels comfortable asking questions. Teaching style and rapport matter as much as qualifications, particularly for younger learners or those who have previously struggled with the subject. If a trial is not offered, ask to speak with the tutor before committing and raise any specific concerns about syllabus gaps or examination technique.
The Science of Studying's specific tutor qualifications — such as NIE training, degree discipline, or years of teaching experience — are not listed in the publicly available provider data. Parents are encouraged to ask directly about academic background, whether the tutor has prior MOE or school teaching experience, and how long they have been working with students at the relevant level. It is also useful to confirm which syllabuses the tutor is familiar with — for instance, MOE O-Level or A-Level, the Cambridge IGCSE, IB Diploma, or international AP curricula — as alignment with your child's specific school programme makes a meaningful difference to outcomes. If credentials are not readily shared upfront, treat that as a prompt to ask more questions before committing to a term.
