I have been working with Karl for well over 2 years now and it has been life-changing, to say the least. He is incredibly versatile, showing a deep understanding of various complex life situations and relationship dynamics. He helped me fundamentally repair my relationship with myself and hence with my spouse, while offering invaluable guidance on raising my toddler daughter and navigating broader family ties. What truly sets them apart is his personality—he is the perfect balance of gentle and firm, providing the right amount of push and support exactly when it's needed. Plus, his great sense of humor brings a much-needed fun to the process. If you are looking for an insightful, adaptable, and genuinely supportive therapist, I cannot recommend him enough.

Can't express how useful our session was with Karl. It was more than I could have ever asked for. He was knowledgeable, understanding and gave us the tools we needed to understand the situation at hand. There wasn't anything wrong with our dynamic but I would highly recommend Karl and his practice if you want to strengthen your understanding of yourself or your loved ones. Incredible valuable to say the least!

Karl is quite frankly the worst possible couples therapist, for a number of reasons. We would strongly recommend you look for alternatives. 1) Karl kept making far reaching assumptions on both my girlfriend and me. My girlfriend is successful and career driven, every knows her to be assertive, yet after several questions to her and even with her direct answers he replies "you're not assertive are you" - it was completely tone death and when she corrected him he seemed visibly agitated by it and took a few minutes to get it together. 2) I told him I lost both my parents by the age of 21 (i'm 38 now), he then asked where I was from in the UK, and I said outside of London. Karl followed up by saying "ok so you've had an entitled life then"... I stopped what he was going to say next. Absolutely mind blowing that he thinks where you come from means you're entitled which I certainly am not. 3) In a 90 minute session he randomly showed us a 7 minute long video which had poor acting and the topic was no relation to what we were talking about - it was strange. 4) Karl is very expensive - frankly even if he was a 1/10 of the cost we still would have left feeling cheated. 5) As soon as we left we agreed we need another couples therapist as we love each other and know what we need to work on - clearly that is not with Karl as he tragically an amateur in the field and in way over his head. If there was a counselling regulator here in Singapore he would have been booted out of the profession by now.

Working with Karl has been an incredibly positive and transformative experience. From our very first session, it was clear how deeply he listens, communicates, and genuinely cares about his clients. He creates such a warm, safe, and judgment-free space where I feel completely comfortable sharing my thoughts and emotions. Even though our sessions are virtual, he seamlessly bridges the distance — it truly feels as though we’re in the same room. What stands out most is his attentiveness and the thoughtful way he interacts and provides feedback. He doesn’t just listen — he hears me. Every session leaves me feeling understood, validated, and hopeful. I always walk away with greater clarity and a renewed sense of purpose as we continue our work together toward a better, more balanced version of myself. I also deeply appreciate his dedication to his field. It is evident that he stays current with the latest therapeutic techniques and thoughtfully integrates them into our sessions, which makes the experience feel both grounded and progressive. I wholeheartedly recommend Karl to anyone seeking a compassionate, skilled therapist who provides a truly safe space to explore emotions, uncover core drives, and grow toward healing and self-understanding. His professionalism and genuine care set him apart — and I’m deeply grateful to have him as a guide on this journey.

Over the past months, my son has been supported by Karl, who has become an essential part of our village. My son first reached out to him in July 2025, during a period filled with family transitions and the pressure of national exams, PSLE. What followed has been a steady and visible change for us both. I’ve watched a child who once carried self esteem, anxiety and more, begin to regain his calmness, confidence and emotional balance. Their biweekly sessions have given my youngest a safe and consistent space to express himself. Each meeting seems to ground him a little more. My son is learning how to navigate stress, understand his emotions and trust his own ability to cope. The shift has been gentle but is unmistakable. My son is calmer, more assured and more able to handle the demands of this season in his life. Karl has also guided me as a parent. His insights help me understand what my child is experiencing, and he gives me practical ways to better support my son at home. Karl’s guidance has strengthened the connection between my son and me. I feel better equipped to support my son through this challenging period. Karl brings warmth, clarity and genuine care to every interaction. His work has made a meaningful difference to my son and to our family. I’m deeply grateful for his presence, his consistency and the positive impact he has had on my child’s well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy charge per session?

Specific session fees are not publicly listed and should be confirmed directly with the practice. As a general guide, counselling sessions in Singapore typically run S$80–200 per hour for private practitioners, with psychiatric consultations at the higher end. Some practices offer a sliding scale for clients with financial constraints, or reduced rates for block bookings of six or more sessions. Ask whether there is a separate first-consultation or intake fee, what the cancellation and no-show policy is, and whether GST is applicable. Do I need a referral or assessment first at Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy?

A GP or specialist referral is not required to book a private counselling session, though a referral letter can be useful if you intend to claim against an insurance policy or if you are being seen for a diagnosed condition such as depression, anxiety disorder, or PTSD. Some corporate Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) schemes also require a referral code. At the first session, expect to complete an intake form covering your current concerns, relevant personal history, and any prior therapy or medication. Bring any existing diagnosis letters or medical reports that may help the counsellor understand your background. If you have active suicidal ideation or a complex psychiatric condition, the counsellor may coordinate with a psychiatrist or refer you onward.

Is the practitioner at Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy licensed?

Counselling in Singapore is currently not statutorily regulated in the same way as physiotherapy or TCM, meaning there is no single mandatory government licence for all counsellors. However, reputable practitioners hold voluntary registration with a recognised professional body — the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) is the main one, and members are bound by its code of ethics. Practitioners with clinical or health psychology backgrounds may also hold registration with the Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP) under the Singapore Psychological Society. Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy has not disclosed specific regulatory registrations in the information available on KakiList. Before booking, ask the counsellor directly for their highest qualification, professional body membership number, and years of practice — this is standard practice and any legitimate counsellor will provide it readily. Confirm the practitioner's licence number on the relevant body's public register before your first session.
