Patients typically begin with a first consultation during which the physiotherapist conducts a structured assessment to understand the presenting condition — whether that is musculoskeletal pain, post-surgical rehabilitation, hand or upper-limb injury, sports injury, or neurological recovery. From there, a treatment plan is agreed, which may combine manual therapy, exercise prescription, and modalities such as ultrasound or dry needling depending on the diagnosis. NALCO specialises in hand therapy, making it a relevant option for patients recovering from fractures, tendon repairs, or conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger. Patients should clarify session frequency, package versus pay-per-session options, and the cancellation policy at the point of booking.

Just “graduated” from my post-op hand therapy for thumb fracture. Yuna was amazing in helping me regain the flexibility and strength in my grip. I definitely learnt a lot from her about the intricacies of hand muscles/nerves/tendons and how to take better care of my hands. Her jovial personality also helped pass the almost weekly sessions. The admin staff were super responsive and helpful in scheduling and managing changes. Many thanks Yuna and the Pheonix team!

Physiotherapist Shiv is excellent in pointing out my C spine, shoulder and back issue. After a few acupoint massage, the affected area feel so much more better and relieved. He even taught me sets of exercise to do at home. Really satisfied with the visit and will be back in a week time to see him.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does NALCO Physio & Hand Therapy (Tampines) charge per session?

NALCO Physio & Hand Therapy (Tampines) has not publicly disclosed its per-session rate, but physiotherapy consultations in Singapore typically range from S$80 to S$180 for an initial assessment and S$60 to S$150 for follow-up sessions at private clinics. Some clinics offer package bundles of six to ten sessions at a slightly reduced per-session cost, which suits patients with longer rehabilitation programmes. If you hold a CHAS, Medisave, or company health insurance plan, confirm with the clinic whether your insurer or scheme is accepted — Medisave can be used for physiotherapy at approved clinics under specific conditions. A first-time consultation fee may differ from the treatment session rate, so ask for a full cost breakdown at booking. See the full physiotherapy cost guide for Singapore →

Do I need a referral or assessment first?

You do not need a GP referral to book a physiotherapy appointment at NALCO Physio & Hand Therapy (Tampines), though a referral letter from your doctor, specialist, or surgeon can be helpful — it provides the physiotherapist with diagnostic imaging, surgical notes, and treatment context, which saves time at the first visit and may be required if you are claiming through an insurer or Medisave. At the first visit, expect a structured intake assessment covering your medical history, the mechanism of injury or onset of symptoms, functional limitations, and goals. For hand therapy specifically, the therapist may also assess grip strength, range of motion, and sensory function. Bring any relevant X-rays, MRI reports, or post-operative discharge summaries. Patients with complex conditions such as post-stroke hand weakness or tendon injuries should mention this when booking so the appropriate therapist is assigned.

Is the practitioner licensed?

Physiotherapists in Singapore are regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) under the Allied Health Professions Act. Registration is mandatory — an unregistered person may not legally practise as a physiotherapist. You can verify any physiotherapist's registration by searching the AHPC public register at ahpc.edu.sg before your appointment. Hand therapists may additionally hold the Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC), which requires a minimum of five years of clinical experience and a formal examination — this is a voluntary but meaningful credentialling signal for upper-limb and post-surgical hand cases. Ask the clinic to confirm the name and registration number of the physiotherapist or hand therapist who will be treating you. Confirm the practitioner's licence number on the AHPC public register before treatment.
