About SHINE Children and Youth Services

About SHINE Children and Youth Services

SHINE Children and Youth Services is a counselling provider based in Hougang, operating islandwide across Singapore. The listing has been verified by KakiList, meaning operating details and contact channels have been confirmed by a real person. It holds a 4.1-star rating across 13 Google reviews — a small sample, so this figure should be treated as directional only. Pricing is indicated at the mid-range tier ($$); specific session fees are not publicly listed and should be confirmed directly.

Families and young people seeking counselling would typically begin with an initial consultation to discuss the presenting concern — whether that involves stress, grief, behavioural difficulties, relationship issues, or a diagnosed mental health condition. SHINE's focus on children and youth means the intake process is likely to include an assessment of the young person's background and goals, with a care plan developed from there. It is worth confirming whether sessions are offered on an individual, group, or family basis, whether there is a minimum commitment, and what the cancellation policy looks like. Enquiries can be made by phone or via the contact form on their listing.

To take the next step, reach out through the phone or enquiry form to ask about current appointment availability, session format, and fees before booking your first consultation.

the social workers would come to my school and we would have a program all together, it was super fun and enjoyable! Until yesterday was the last day that we were seeing them as they won't be coming back anymore... Wise words they said was "You may have come to the end of your journey with us, but you still have a long journey ahead of you with life, There may be ups and downs in life, but everything is a process, it takes time"

We would not recommend their service. We have encountered a long delay in their assessment of our child’s case. Moreover, the report findings did not pick out the key issues which was been discussed with them. Overall, the report is useless for us, and it is a waste of money and the expectation for an answer to help our child be better. It is very mentally depressing to have a report that gives no help to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SHINE Children and Youth Services charge per session?

SHINE Children and Youth Services does not publicly list specific session fees — pricing is indicated at the mid-range tier. Singapore counselling fees typically run S$80–200 per session for private providers, with some social service agencies offering sliding-scale or subsidised rates depending on household income and referral pathway. It is worth confirming the per-session rate, whether an initial assessment fee applies, and whether package pricing or a recurring commitment is offered. Ask also about the cancellation and no-show policy before committing. See the full counselling cost guide for Singapore →

Do I need a referral or assessment first?

Most counselling providers accept self-referrals, though a GP or school referral can be helpful if you intend to make a Medisave or insurance claim, or if the young person has an existing diagnosis that should inform the care approach. SHINE's focus on children and youth suggests the intake process will include an initial assessment to understand the presenting concern, the young person's background, and what the family hopes to achieve. Bring any relevant school reports, previous assessments, or medical letters to the first appointment. It is also useful to clarify contraindications — for instance, whether the counsellor works with clinical presentations such as eating disorders or self-harm, or whether those require a referral to a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist instead.

Is the practitioner licensed?

Counselling in Singapore is not yet a statutorily regulated profession in the same way as physiotherapy or TCM, meaning there is no single mandatory government licence. However, reputable counsellors typically hold membership with the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) or are registered with the Singapore Register of Counsellors (SRC), which sets minimum training and supervision standards. SHINE Children and Youth Services has no licences listed in the KakiList record at this time. Before booking, ask the assigned counsellor for their professional membership or registration, their specific training and years of experience working with children and young people, and whether they carry professional indemnity insurance. Confirm the practitioner's credentials on the relevant professional body's public register before committing to a course of sessions.
