I have autism, and am currently in need of a part time job- I was told to contact them for help, and did. I was told that to be assessed, they would need proof of my autism before I could recieve help. My diagnoses was done almost 17 years ago, in another country, and the papers of which are still my psychologist. I was told then that either I went to a poly clinic, which I highly doubt has people qualified to diagnose someone with autism, or I wouldn’t get help. This is ridiculous. At this point I’m begging for help and I’m told that I essentially need to prove my autism before I can recieve help for a job. As an adult with autism this is the most heart breaking and honestly insulting thing that can occur. I live with autism 24/7. I highly doubt that the people who work here even understand a bit of how hard it is to exist within a system that’s ableist.
