About Home Straits Chinese Restaurant

About Home Straits Chinese Restaurant

Home Straits Chinese Restaurant is a catering provider based at Esplanade Mall, offering islandwide event catering in Singapore. KakiList has verified operating details and contact channels. The restaurant holds a 4.4/5 rating across 557 Google reviews, a robust sample that gives reasonable confidence in service consistency. Pricing is positioned in the mid-range band.

Enquiries typically begin with a pax count and event date, as most Chinese buffet and sit-down catering operates with a minimum headcount — confirm this threshold early. Home Straits offers Chinese cuisine, so discuss the dietary mix upfront: whether guests require halal, no-pork-no-lard, vegetarian, or no-beef options, and ask for documentation of any certifications relevant to your guest profile. A menu tasting before committing to a deposit is worth requesting for larger events. Confirm delivery and setup timing, whether chafing dishes and warmers are included or billed separately, whether a buffet attendant will be on-site, and the teardown window. Food safety is a practical concern — hot dishes should be served within a 2–3 hour cooked-to-served window, held above 60°C per SFA guidelines.

To take the next step, contact Home Straits Chinese Restaurant by phone or via the enquiry form on this listing. Have your event date, venue address, expected headcount, and dietary requirements ready so they can confirm availability and provide a per-pax quotation.

Overall, the food was good. The prawns, Nonya chap Chye and sweet sour fish were especially well done. The desserts were also a highlight. But I wished they informed us about the change in the dessert as not everyone on the table takes durian. However, the service could be improved. The drinks took quite a long time to be served, and it was difficult to get the attention of the waitstaff when we needed assistance.

I'll definitely be back here for vegetarian food. The dishes were well prepared, and the portions are good for sharing. My favourites being the rice and fried mushrooms.

Visited Straits Chinese Singapore at Esplanade Mall after our ROM with 3 tables of 8–9 pax. Pre-visit communication was great, the lady staff was patient and helpful. On the day, service was mediocre. Staff did not check in during the lunch. Food portions were okay but not very flavorful compared to other Peranakan restaurants in Singapore. Drinks were overpriced ($20–30 per jug), full of ice & the lemongrass drink wasn’t well mixed with no stirrer provided. Our party was larger than expected, and staff didn’t suggest cost-saving alternatives, leading to a bill ~30% higher than anticipated. Pros: The receptionist gave angbao packets after lunch which i find thoughtful. Ambience is good. Overall, good for location if you’re doing a ROM there, just a level below. Take note: They unfortunately only provide ONE car park ticket per bill, and split bill is not allowed

Every dish we tried was superb – full of rich flavors, authentic taste, and beautifully cooked.

All the dishes taste very distinct. Highly recommend the babi pong tay (braised pork loin), nonya chap chye (mixed vegetables), Founders Otah Otah and Blue Pea rice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Home Straits Chinese Restaurant charge per pax?

Home Straits Chinese Restaurant prices catering on a per-pax basis, which is standard for Chinese event catering in Singapore. Typical market rates run S$15–25/pax for standard buffets, S$25–40/pax for premium spreads, and sit-down banquet formats are usually priced per table of 10, ranging from S$800–2,000+ per table depending on menu tier. Contact the restaurant directly for their current rate card, as pricing varies by menu selection and pax count. Confirm what is included in the quoted rate: delivery and setup, chafing dishes and warmers, serving tongs and utensils, and whether a buffet attendant is on-site. Add-ons such as waste collection, extended service hours, and non-central delivery surcharges are sometimes billed separately. GST applies. See the full catering cost guide for Singapore →

What dietary options and halal certification does Home Straits Chinese Restaurant offer?

Home Straits Chinese Restaurant serves Chinese cuisine, so the default menu is not halal-certified unless explicitly stated. If your guest list includes Muslim guests who require certified halal food, confirm whether the restaurant holds a MUIS halal certificate — 'no pork no lard' without MUIS certification is not equivalent to certified halal and will not meet the standard for guests who observe strict halal requirements. For mixed dietary events, ask about vegetarian options (lacto-ovo or vegan), no-beef dishes for Hindu guests, and gluten-free alternatives if needed. Confirm cross-contamination protocols where multiple dietary groups are being served. Most caterers offer a tasting session for orders above a minimum value — request this before paying any deposit.

Is Home Straits Chinese Restaurant licensed and how is food safety handled?

Home Straits Chinese Restaurant is KakiList-verified, with operating details and contact channels confirmed. It holds a 4.4/5 rating across 557 Google reviews, a robust sample that suggests consistent quality. However, no regulatory licences are currently listed on this profile — ask the restaurant to provide their SFA Food Shop or Catering Licence number and hygiene grade (A is highest, then B, C, D) before confirming a booking. For food safety, cooked hot dishes should be held above 60°C and served within a 2–3 hour cooked-to-served window per SFA guidelines. Confirm the setup arrival time, buffet replenishment schedule, and the policy for handling leftovers safely. Confirm the SFA Food Shop or Catering Licence (and MUIS halal certificate where required), book a tasting before paying the deposit, and put the per-pax rate, minimum headcount, dietary mix, delivery and setup window, and balance schedule in writing.
