About Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG

About Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG

Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG is a paediatric orthopaedic specialist practice located at Mount Alvernia Hospital, Medical Centre A, on Thomson Road. The practice is KakiList-verified, and its 4.9-star rating across 97 Google reviews represents a robust sample and a strong satisfaction signal. No regulatory licences are listed in the public data, so prospective patients should confirm the consulting surgeon's Singapore Medical Council (SMC) registration and the clinic's MOH Healthcare Services Licence directly before booking. Pricing is indicated at a moderate-to-higher private specialist tier, consistent with paediatric orthopaedic subspecialty care.

Parents typically begin by contacting the clinic via WhatsApp, phone, or the online enquiry form to describe the child's presenting condition — common presentations include limb deformities, gait abnormalities, scoliosis, sports-related injuries, fractures, hip dysplasia, and clubfoot. A first specialist consultation at a private paediatric orthopaedic clinic typically costs S$120–250, with additional charges for investigations such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI depending on the clinical picture. Parents holding an Integrated Shield Plan (IP) should confirm pre-authorisation requirements with their insurer before attending, particularly if a procedure or day surgery is anticipated. MediSave may be applicable for selected outpatient and surgical procedures; a financial counselling session at the clinic will clarify the split between insurance, MediSave, and out-of-pocket portions in writing before any planned intervention.

To make an appointment, contact Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG directly via WhatsApp, phone, or the clinic's enquiry form, and bring any existing imaging, referral letters, and the child's vaccination and medical records to the first consultation.

Dr Lam is very patient and highly knowledgeable in his area of specialty. He always takes the time to thoroughly explain my son’s condition to us and my parents in Mandarin, which we really appreciate. The clinic assistants are also very welcoming and friendly. The only slight inconvenience is that I have to remind the clinic assistants before each appointment with Dr Lam to send the referral form to Mount A’s radiology department before my son can undergo his ultrasound or X-ray. Aside from this, our overall experience at the clinic has always b

I dislocated my knee recently and it was quite scary but I’m glad I went to Bone Island. Dr Lam was very patient and took time to explain everything clearly, like the recovery process, surgery risks (as my condition was quite serious) and how to take care of my leg after it heals. He’s very kind and honest and made me feel comfortable every visit. The clinic staff were also very nice and friendly. I had a very good experience and I’m very grateful for their help. I would definitely recommend this clinic. :)

My daughter was complaining of knee pain for months, saw a few specialist... After seeing Dr Lam and his team, and with the recommendations of physio sessions,U daughter's knee condition is definitely improving. Thank you Dr Lam.

Dr Lam needs no introduction or review in the field of pediatric orthopedic medicine. As a doctor I had only heard good things about him, and personally when I needed help for my child- he definitely outshone my expectations. Besides being academically brilliant, he is extremely good with kids (mine was a toddler who didn’t cry at all throughout his examination), excellent in bedside manners, and follows a good balance at being neither too conservative or too aggressive. Would highly recommend him.

Dr. Lam is kind, warm, and puts kids at ease. He explains every step clearly and specifies do/donts, leaving you with a clear understanding of how to support your child. The gentlemen who put on the cast/remove are fun, warm, and do things quickly so that there is no room for the kids’ anxiety to grow. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Lam and his clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG charge?

First specialist consultations at private paediatric orthopaedic clinics in Singapore typically run S$120–250, with follow-up reviews at S$80–180. Investigations billed on top include X-rays (S$80–150 per view), ultrasound (S$150–400), and MRI (S$400–1,800 depending on the joint and whether contrast is required). Blood panels are less common in orthopaedics but may be ordered pre-operatively. Day surgery and planned procedures — such as fracture fixation, tendon release, or scoliosis correction — vary widely in cost (S$3,000–25,000+ depending on procedure complexity and hospital class) and should be quoted with a written financial counselling estimate that separates insurance payout, MediSave deduction, and out-of-pocket portions before any deposit is paid. GST applies on private medical services. See the full paediatric cost guide for Singapore →

Is Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG MOH-licensed and how do I verify the doctor?

Every legitimate specialist clinic must hold an MOH Healthcare Services Licence under the Healthcare Services Act, verifiable on the MOH licensee directory. The consulting surgeon must also be registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) — search by name at smc.gov.sg to confirm active registration, specialist accreditation in Orthopaedic Surgery (or Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery where separately credentialled), and any disciplinary history. For paediatric orthopaedic subspecialty work, a Royal College fellowship (FRCS Orthopaedics) or Academy of Medicine Singapore fellowship (FAMS) is the meaningful additional credential beyond basic SMC registration. No regulatory licences are listed in the current public data for this practice — confirm both the clinic's MOH licence and the named surgeon's SMC entry directly with the clinic before booking. Verify the doctor's name on the Singapore Medical Council register and the clinic's MOH Healthcare Services Licence before booking, and for any planned procedure request a written financial counselling estimate that itemises insurance payout, MediSave deduction, and out-of-pocket portions before paying any deposit.

How do I use MediSave or insurance at Paediatric Orthopaedics SMG?

Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) layered on MediShield Life cover most private specialist consultations, day surgery, and inpatient stays subject to each plan's deductible, co-insurance, and rider rules. For any planned orthopaedic procedure — fracture fixation, corrective osteotomy, spinal surgery — confirm pre-authorisation and obtain a Letter of Guarantee from your insurer before the procedure to avoid claim disputes after the fact. MediSave can be used for selected outpatient claims under the S$500/700 withdrawal limits and for qualifying surgical procedures at approved facilities including Mount Alvernia Hospital. The clinic's financial counsellor will issue an itemised pre-treatment estimate splitting the insurance payout, MediSave deduction, and cash out-of-pocket portions in writing — request this before consenting to any planned intervention. Skipping this step is the most common reason families are surprised by the final bill. See the full paediatric cost guide for Singapore →
